"Come on, buddy, you might end up breaking a nail."

Spider-Man's webs shove a man against the wall, arms stuck against the bricks. Maddy's alterations light up his surroundings through his eyepieces, another reason why he's grateful for taking the deal those years ago. Makes night-time crime-solving a lot easier.

The man, however, grunts in pain at the sudden contact, eyes wide as he watches the figure in the dark grab the bag of money he'd dropped. It's not his priority, however. What is is the fact that he just got apprehended by a man in a spandex suit with webs.

He gapes. "Are you Batman?"

That grabs Peter's attention, the man snapping his head up to stare at the thief incredulously. "Where have you been for the last ten years?" Staring at his face, there's no sign of sarcasm or anything, remaining completely serious and scared enough that he might wet his pants at any moment, if he hasn't already.

Spider-Man just sighs. "Yeah. I'm Batman. Now shut up and wait for the police to arrive, twinkle-toes." He shoots another web, covering the thief's mouth, till something pops up in the corner of his screen.

Aunt May. For a moment, a flash of fear travels through Peter, worried she'll scold him for being home late. It takes a moment before he remembers that he's nearly thirty years old and has been living in his own place for years before the fear dissipates, the man facepalming exhaustedly. Maybe he should push back the rest of his marking tomorrow and get some rest.

He walks further into the alleyway, far enough that the thief can't hear his voice, before answering the call. "Hey, Aunt May. Everything alright?"

But her voice is fast, panicked, and maybe he'd tell her to stop and slow down in repeating if it wasn't for the fact he catches the words 'accident' and 'Maddy'. It's only when it's followed by 'hospital' that his heart stops, the message penetrating his mind, and he knows he can't hang around. He needs to go.

Leaving the money and the thief for the police to find, Peter grabs his backpack from where he left it in the chase and rushes to the hospital, hurriedly tugging on his normal clothes and pulling off his mask, something Maddy always reminds him to do.

Maddy.

What if she got badly hurt? He'll never forgive himself for it. If anything happened, if he wasn't there, it's his fault. It's Spider-Man's job to protect people. He should've asked when she said she wouldn't meet up that night. What kind of accident? Did she know what she was getting into?

He can't lose her like he lost Gwen. He can't do all that all over again.

He skids the last few steps before crashing into the receptionist's desk, but he doesn't care about how ridiculous he looks. "Mads- Madison Kennedy, 27 years old. My aunt just called, said she was brought in after an accident." His voice is breathlessly, rapid, words spilling out without any kind of filter.
