"IS THAT A PRIVATE PLANE?"

Madison's jaw literally drops at the sight, an amazed laugh slipping past her lips. A couple of people stand by the jet, ready to welcome them aboard. Her grip on Peter's hand just tightens, and despite the warmth of it, he holds it back just as firmly. The smile grows on his lips at her contagious excitement, but it doesn't do much to reduce the anxiety he's feeling.

He lets her go ahead, skipping over to the plane, where the steps have been pulled down. Feigning normalcy, she nods her head at the two standing by her. "Thank you very much for your hospitality."

But there's no fooling them, and Peter catches sight of the two glancing at each other with knowing smiles as she heads up the steps, knowing she's never been on a private plane before.

When he heads up, he catches sight of Madison chatting animatedly with the pilots, laughing along with them as they gesture at different buttons. "Yes, Doctor Kennedy. Autopilot buttons exist. They're not just in movies. We just don't tend to use them."

"And the headphones are to talk to people?"

"Partially. It gets really loud in the cockpit, loud enough that we could actually go deaf. These help block off the noise. But yes, it's also for ATC transmissions by pressing this switch. Here."

One of the pilots grabs his headphones, placing them on Madison's head before adjusting the sides. The whole time, Peter can see her eyes sparkling with joy till she turns to face him, practically shouting as she says, "Do these look as cool as they feel?!"

His hands immediately go to cover his ears, although the grin stays on his lips. She was always interested in planes growing up, having told Peter that her step-dad was a pilot before he divorced her mom. "You look stupid!" he shouts back, only for her to furrow her eyebrows, the headphones functioning properly.

"What?!"

"I said–!" He pulls the headphones off her ears, gently untangling his fingers from the strands of hair before handing them back, "You look stupid."

That makes her pretend to huff. "You look stupid." She turns back to the pilots, offering a smile. "Thanks. I will find you guys after – I want to know more about planes."

"Looking forward to it," one of them chuckles.

The two retreat further into the plane, but when they slide one of the doors open, they can't help but gape. White seats, beautiful black tables, a huge TV on one of the walls, a corner with desktops galore, and couches. Couches. Much more comfortable than the one they have at home.

Champagne bottles, chocolates, posh biscuits, sandwiches, all kinds of things that Madison would never dare to ask for on a commercial flight.

"...This is crazy," comes Peter's startled whisper.
