that morning we rode our bikes
past the convenience store, past the post office

A squirrel darted into the road
And you swerved onto the pavement
Skin over road, rocks and speckled blood
I laughed and cried
You pushed me over
We went home earlier that night than the others
I didn't mind,
because you texted me all night
