I think the dream was worse than the nightmares I had before.

That was what life could have been

If you didn't leave Newt

That's not true! I opened my eyes to see I had fallen out of the tree I had slept in last night, and was now in the cold wet snow.

Not beautiful green grass. Cold white snow.

Not smooth gray walls. Dying trees.

Not crystal blue sky. White colorless sky.

The world was colorless, with no Newt to brighten it up.

That was how the world looked to me now. Colorless, emotionless, joyless. My heart felt heavy, and I didn't want to get up.

You idiot!

Newt needs you

Worthless

No. I'm not worthless. I pushed myself up, climbed the tree to get my backpack, and started running. I didn't stop to eat that day. Or drink. Around noon, I scouted for a tree that would actually hold me, then climbed it. I looked around. More white, more gray, more nothing. No, wait. There was something! There was a bundle of something, about 100 feet away! I jumped off the tree, and bolted for it. I got closer. It was a person. I got closer. It was a wounded person. I got closer.
