The clock ticked, and the days went by without waiting on anyone. John and Laura spent their days with each other. David was working a lot and did not spend enough time with the family.

"John, when you get older, I want you to become someone big in life. I want you to do and be better than me," she said.

"I will try my best. Mom, I am still holding on to my goal of moving you to somewhere better to live," he said.

"I know," Laura said.

"If you ever see me coming home late, just know that I am working," John said.

"I don't want you doing anything crazy for money, " Laura said.

"I am doing this for you," John said.

"Be careful out there, tomorrow is never promised," Laura said.

John loved her mother dearly and never disrespected her. Even though John got into deadly fights and committed crimes, he never exposed his violent side towards his mom.

The evening colors were in the sky of Catalinas. John saw the sun almost going down and decided to head out. John walked to Crook Cemetery to check out his weeds. When he got there, he saw that they have grown. He nurtured them again and planned to come back another day to see if they got bigger.

The next day, John came back and ended up cutting the weeds. His legs moved like the wind as he headed to the south side of Sosaville with weed in a backpack. He looked at every direction and looked at the people all around. He wondered what type of people would buy his grass. He walked around the streets of Sosaville and saw Derrick standing by a stoplight,

"You smoke?" John asked.

"What the heck you doing here?" Derrick said.

"Do you smoke?" John said.

"No, but they do," Derrick pointed at a group of young guys sitting on the front stairs of an apartment complex, "Alright, thanks, I will see you Monday at school," John said.

"Hold up, we not playing basketball?" Derrick said.

"Next Saturday," John said.

"Oh, c'mon, that's what you told me last Friday," Derrick said.

"Derrick, I got business to do," John said.

"Oh yeah, doing what?" Derrick said.

"What you think? No one hires me, there is no jobs out here. I got to do what Mom don't want me to do in order to put food on the plate," John said.

"You are gonna end up dead like the rest," Derrick said.

"Got to do it for the family," John said.

John walked towards the young guys whom Derrick pointed at earlier. John approached them, he noticed that they were a little older than him. He walked to them fearlessly, "Y'all need some loud," John said. "What you got," a young guy said. John sold them an ounce of weed. The young guys looked at him funny as if he was the new kid in town. They have never seen him before but thought that he was cool. The group of boys told him of other hot spots to sell. John conquered all the south side of Sosaville. He sold every day no matter if it was day or night.

John went back and forth from Crook Cemetery to South Sosaville. John sometimes went to sell to the same buyers, and sometimes he just sold to whoever. John went back home and hid his money like always. No one in the family knew that there was money under the couch seat cushion.

John started to get the hang of selling drugs and started to get better with his math. He sold like a confident, wise businessman with the right words to say. He spoke numbers to his buyers wisely. He got more money than he expected. John inherited the knowledge of the drug business.
