Chapter 17 ~ Redemption

Kai's POV: (why not? this story is mostly based on kai but cole does play a significant part)

"what happened exactly? "

"i told you before, lloyd's eyes turned purple and he just shut all his emotions on everyone!" Nya hissed. "he......-" we waited her to continue in eager slience, "He a-almost killed harumi" "whoa, that's definitely not lloyd. i agree, harumi's a bitch but .....he would go that far......would he?" Cole's eyes widened. "i can't imagine if it happened" i chocked on my own reply. Cole gently took my hand, "we won't let that happen. never" cole nodded reassuringly. nya nodded with him. skylor seemed hesitating but she also nodded grimly. i had a bad feeling of her all of a sudden, she's already gained the respect and trust of the ninja and cole, and of course, me, right from the beginning. but that bitter feeling nagged my head that tonight it will be different. i chose to ignore it for the time being and consider it later........

"where to now?"

"follow me. but be quite"

us three nodded and nya lead the way. after a few minutes, i felt an uneasiness. "where is lloyd exactly?" i asked nya, my hand now gripping my sword, still not taken out but ready to attack. "somewhere secure. in the heart of her lair, rough guess honestly" "i trust you" in the dim light emitted by my own flames, i could see nya's pale face lighten up a bit. 

"wait-"

Skylor whispered. we stopped. "what's wrong skylor?" Skylor nodded at me, i got the signal, Someone was watching, ready to attack. 

"i know you're there, Harumi"

"about time you ninja realized" harumi emerged from the shadows, with a sinister grin. she was just as i remembered from my trance. Pale white hair, dark green eyes, beautiful, but- deadly. "where's lloyd?" I asked, feeling my sword at bay. "i see you've gotten nya out-" "don't try to change the subject" harumi sighed. "you think i'd give up lloyd that easily?"

 "we'll see about that" Cole activated his lava arms and attacked harumi. I drew my sword and nya made defencive water shields. Harumi dodged his punch by siding right. cole ran past her buts stopped himself. while she seemed distracted, i motioned nya to attack from the behind. she nodded and without another word i jumped up and clashed my sword at her. harumi ducked just in time as my sword slashed the air seconds later. "whoa. you really did raise my expectations kai. you've let me down" harumi smirked sarcasticly. 

'you've let me down'

'-let me down'

'-down, down, down......'

My throat closed up and my mouth felt dry. i let everyone down, i was too weak to get there before harumi took lloyd and nya. i should've been there for cole, for the others.....for nya. if i hadn't messed up everything would've been alright. 

I got myself together, i won't quiver at harumi again. i'll make it up to everyone. i'll save everyone and i will end her madness.

"nice try. but i'm here for lloyd, and you won't get in my way, princess" i pushed the 'princess' part with a grin. something seems to trigger in harumi as she hesitated. She fell on her knees and from behind her hair, tears fell.

 "oh for fuck's sake. Nevermind, I'll finish you off, personally" 

i gasped as i turned to see skylor, holding cole by his chest. "What- Sky-" i was at lost of words. "Kai, oh dear kai, Harumi was working for me." "Please skylor...." i pleaded. "let. cole. go" Skylor chuckled coldly. "you think i didn't see you two together? why didn't you tell me? after you pretended to go on a date with me?" "w-what is she talking about kai" nya walked up to my side. I looked way, not meeting her gaze. 

"time to come clean kai smith"

I opened my mouth but no words came out. I clench my fists and look at cole's eyes, instead of fear, he seemed calm. He almost seem to be grinning. Skylor tapped her foot impatiently, focusing on me. "i uhm... didn't acutally- you know- yeah" i stuttered. cole's cheeked blsuhed as he looked a bit flustered. I kept my focus on skylor's icy grey eyes as a lose shadow formed behind her. 

"tsk, tsk harumi. you do know that i can control your powers" Skylor dropped cole and glared at harumi, who's hand was glowing purple, remnants of tears still in the corners of her eyes. "no! i earned this!" Harumi fought back some invisible force straining her. I used the the distraction and striked with my sword, Skylor dodged abut i managed to cut her wrist, letting go of harumi. she gasped but kept her footing. I lowered down and tripping skylor with a swing with my legs. She yelped as he fell on a butt. Not before her blade cutting my cheek. Leaving a cut, the blood dripping down to my mouth. the shadow grew and held skylor in place. "lloyd. now" i glare at the breathless harumi as i help up cole. "very helpful mister" i rolled my eyes. "well, you're ex is nuts. whoa, that feels very weird"

 "yup" i chuckle. 

"not so fast" skylor vaporised the shadow and charged towards me. she was took quick for me her blade narrowly missed my lower abdomen, not before leaving a wound. I flinched and held my wound as blood soaked my gloves. 

"that's the last straw" was cole's voice, his tone, a warning, his voice gave but was lighted by fear. before i could process anything, the pain blinded me and i, once again, gave away and blacked out.
