*💚Julia's POV💚*

The Mystery Machine limo purred through the streets of Coolsville, a rolling symbol of how far we'd come. The last few years since Spooky Island had been a whirlwind of passports, press conferences, and—of course—mysteries. We'd gone global. Our teamwork was tighter, our instincts sharper, our bond unbreakable.

The only downside? The relentless, flashing spotlight. The press was like a persistent ghost we could never quite unmask.

The limo slowed to a stop outside the imposing marble facade of the Coolsonian Criminology Museum. Before the door even opened, the roar of the crowd hit us—a wall of sound built on adoration and excitement.

"And here they are, folks! This crowd is going crazy over Mystery Inc.!" a news anchor's amplified voice declared from beyond the tinted windows.

Fred, ever the showman, was first out, flashing his perfect smile. Daphne followed, elegant as always. They were immediately swarmed. Fred began handing out signed replicas of his signature ascot to squealing fans. Velma emerged next, offering a more subdued but genuine wave to the cheering masses.

Then came the explosion of pure, unfiltered joy. Shaggy and Scooby tumbled out of the limo together, their energy infectious. I couldn't help but smile, watching them. Scooby, a burger clutched in one paw, used the other to toss signed photos into the air like confetti.

"Check it out! It's a Shag, Jewels, and Scoob quake, and the whole city's shaking!" Shaggy yelled, doing a little victory shimmy right there on the red carpet. He turned back, his eyes finding me still in the limo, and extended his hand.

I took it, letting him guide me out. In one smooth, gallant motion, he brought my hand to his lips, his gaze locked on mine.

"Miss Willows," he murmured against my knuckles, his voice a private rumble amidst the public chaos. "You look absolutely breath-taking."

I glanced down at the emerald green dress I'd bought special for tonight, the silk whispering with every move. The way he was looking at me made it feel worth every penny.

"And you, Mr. Rogers," I replied, leaning in to brush a kiss at the corner of his smiling mouth, "look absolutely handsome."

Our moment was punctuated by a slurp-gulp and a gasp. Scooby had stolen Shaggy's chocolate milkshake. The glass got suctioned onto his nose; he shook his head violently, sending a tidal wave of brown liquid arcing through the air to drench our poor, stoic driver.

"Sorry," Scooby mumbled, the empty glass finally dropping to the carpet.

"I consider it a privilege, sir," the driver said, dripping but unflappable.

I handed him my handkerchief. "Thank you, miss. You're too kind," he said, offering a damp smile.

I linked my arm through Shaggy's, and we started up the carpet. He stopped suddenly, nostrils flaring. "You smell that, Scoob? Mini quiches. Hot mini quiches."

"Shaggy!" a chorus of voices screamed from behind the velvet rope.

His head snapped toward the sound. "Hey!" he yelled back, grinning. Our fans were a blended crowd—adventurous kids, nostalgic adults, and everyone in between. It warmed my heart.

"Right on!" He high-fived a dozen outstretched hands. I paused to sign a few autographs and smile for phone cameras, the flashbulbs popping like distant lightning.

We finally caught up with the others inside the grand museum foyer. A reporter named Heather Jasper-Howe fell into step beside us, microphone at the ready. "Can you tell us a little about the exhibit?"

"Absolutely," Fred said, slipping into his polished, professional tone. "Mystery Inc. is proud to donate the costumes of the criminals we've unmasked to the Coolsonian, to serve as a testament to justice—and a warning to future would-be spooks."

"Like the Black Knight Ghost," Daphne added, gesturing to a fearsome suit of armour on a pedestal.

"Our very first case," Fred said, his chest swelling with pride. It was the case that started it all, that forged us.

"The 10,000 Volt Ghost," I chimed in. Shaggy, Scooby, and I pointed in unison at the spark-covered costume, tiny LEDs still flickering menacingly inside its hollow frame.

Daphne moved across the room. "The Skeleton Men," she indicated, "and even the dreaded Pterodactyl Ghost."

"We've also donated the costumes of some of our more... ridiculous foes," Velma stated, adjusting her glasses as she stopped before a giant, feathery chicken monster. "Like, Chickenstein."

Shaggy stared at the towering poultry costume, then turned to Scooby, indignant. "Ridiculous? Obviously, she forgot that dude tried to pluck us."

"Yeah," Scooby agreed with a serious nod.

"But he didn't," I reminded them softly, "because you're both still here, in one piece." Shaggy's response was to snake his arm around my waist, pulling me snug against his side, a silent claim and a comfort.

"We should just remember what Daphne told us," I said, noticing Daphne watching our little huddle with a mix of affection and mild exasperation.

"Never pick your nose in public?" Shaggy asked, genuinely confused.

I shook my head, laughing. "No, not that. But it's a good point, too."

"Image is everything?" Scooby ventured.

"To them, maybe," I said, glancing at the milling crowd and clicking cameras. "But to me, I could care less if the entire town is watching." I looked up at Shaggy. "Which they are. So, let's put on a brave face and behave. For the others' sake."

It was the truth. I didn't solve mysteries for fame or photo ops. I did it for the thrill, the puzzle, the family beside me.

Shaggy's attention was suddenly captured by the Pterodactyl Ghost costume looming on a high platform. A flicker of primal fear crossed his face. "Babe, they're just costumes," I reassured him, squeezing his hand.

"Right. You're right, princess," he mumbled, swallowing hard. "Up close, they look totally fake."

The words were barely out of his mouth when the costume's large, leathery eyelid seemed to twitch.

Shaggy and Scooby saw it too. In a synchronized panic, they each grabbed one of my arms and practically yanked me away from the exhibit, speed-walking toward the relative safety of the refreshment tables. Scooby brought up the rear, casting nervous glances backward.

I stumbled along between them; a laugh caught in my throat. Some things never changed. And as we reached the sanctuary of the buffet—a mountain of canapés and a chocolate fountain—I decided I wouldn't have it any other way. Their appetites were legendary, their fears were real, and their hearts were mine. In our bizarre, wonderful world, that was the only mystery that truly mattered.
