Bree
I stood there, looking at Declan and Bailey, as they stood near my desk gaping at the security monitors.
I was scrutinizing my decision, but to be fair, I had told them two months ago, that they could listen to tonight's act from my office.
How was I to know that my life would be at risk of getting flipped upside down.
"You are to stay?" I cocked a brow at them and Declan reluctantly looked away from the screen to smile up at me.
She was ecstatic about this band. She had a crush on the lead vocalist.
The apple really doesn't fall far from the tree with this child. She may look like her father, but she had my mentality.
"Here." She gave a sigh, "In your office."
"With our butts in our chairs and our eyes on the screen." Bailey, on the other hand, did not look away from the screen.
"Do you know what will happen, if you don't?" My bestie asked our daughters.
"Mom could loose her license and the bar." DC waved a hand to dismiss us, "We get it."
"And we could become homeless." I exaggerated, "I wouldn't even be able to afford your cellphone bill."
"Mom, I get it! Go to work already!" She rolled her eyes and bit into the pizza we had ordered for them.
"And if you happen to run into someone from the band?"
"Highly unlikely, from back here." Bailey giggled.
"Steer clear." Declan chuckled, "Even if it's Mr. Dreamy himself."
"Especially if it's Mr. SIX years older than you, Dreamy, vocalist!" I pointed a finger at her, "Got it?"
"Speaking of Mr. dreamy," Bailey giggled, "He's reportedly not into blondes, so your a shoe in, DC."
"That's promising... Mrs. Declan Rhodes..." She giggled in return.
Lexi and I shared a look and rolled our eyes.
"So, if you have to pee?" Lexi asked the girls.
"We text you or Aunt Bree, to let you know we are leaving the office." Bailey huffed, "We know this, Mom."
Bailey's mom was my best friend, my lawyer and my savior. We had been roomies, in a studio apartment, when we were both pregnant with the girls.
They had grown up together and, where most people had significant others to comfort them and be their rock, I had Lexi. We were an odd sort of family, but a family all the same.
"Mom, we've done this before. I don't get what the big deal is." Declan shrugged.
"I know." I sighed.
In the past twenty-four hours my life had flipped and things were different now...
As if to press my point, there were suddenly sounds of shouting coming down the hall.
"I don't give a fuck what you think!"
Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck! I knew that deep voice, even now.
I looked to Lexi and the look on her face mirrored mine.
We both knew exactly who it was.
"You can't go in there!" I heard Davis shout, but the door swung open before I could react.
And I was suddenly face to face with Asher McGhee...
A very irate Asher McGhee.
"Asher!" It was meant to come out as a greeting, but was a whispered breath.
