"You guys look amazing." Maryanne approves as we join her at the refreshments table.
"You do too!" I smile. I like the direction our friendship is going; yes I now consider her a friend.
"Where's Patrick?" She asks looking around. Jane shrugs.
"He said he was on his way before we left." Jane frowns glancing around now, too. "He better get here soon so I can stop feeling anxious about his reaction to my dress!" I laugh.
"Jane you look beautiful as always." I give. "You have no reason to be so anxious. You know he'll love it." I bump her lightly. My poor Jane.
"And if his reaction isn't dramatic, we will just send him out so he can come back in and give a proper reaction." Maryanne shrugs. "Are you guys official yet?"
"No not exactly." Jane sighs. "Here, give me some spiked eggnog to take the edge off." We laugh.
"Jane, relax." I giggle.
"I'm relaxed." Jane defends eyeing the table. I roll my eyes as Maryanne grabs her a cup. I take notice of the few different varieties of alcohol. I pour myself a jack and Pepsi, since that's one of the soda selections. "Ugh!" I glance at my best friend. "I forgot how much I hate eggnog!"
"I can't." Maryanne snorts. I sip my drink cringing. I made it stronger by accident. At least I can let loose tonight as a distraction. "He's here!"
"What?" Jane coughs. We send out direction to the door. I notice Patrick taking his jacket off. "Oh fuck. Do you guys have gum or something?" I shake my head seeing Patrick look over and turns star struck. I smile. Looking back at Jane I see her studying him, no expression in sight. She's really nervous is she has a blank face. He joins us, his eyes never leaving Jane.
"Wow." He sighs. "Jane you look stunning." He gapes openly. She inhales and holds her breath.
"Patrick that is the most ugliest tie I've ever seen." I can see Maryanne face palm.
"Jane." I tsk. She's deflecting the attention off of her as a habit.
"Seriously? It's like an ugly sweater that got cut and put on your neck. Really Patrick?" She asks.
"I don't think it's terrible. It's quite festive." He defends with a big smile.
"You're lucky you're cute." She blushes. "And that you match." His dress shirt is a similar color to her dress. Patrick finally looks over at Maryanne and I as if realizing for the first time that we were there.
"Oh! You girls look wonderful!" He says.
"Charming." Marianne raises an eyebrow.
"Thank you." I laugh. "Your tie isn't bad."
"It is." Jane scoffs. He shrugs.
"Well Jane, I guess you don't want your present-"
"Present?" She gasp. "Wait, Patrick, you got me a present?" Her eyes shine. "Give!"
"Not with that attitude." He smirks. I look at Maryanne and guesture to walk away to give them privacy. They need their own space to blossom.
"She's blunt." Maryanne laughs.
"That's my best friend." I smile glancing back over at them. I finish my drink.
"So." She drags out. "How are you doing?" I glance at her. "You were quiet yesterday at work." I shrug.
"Honestly, I'm okay." I state. "Edward left for D.C. and very slowly, everything is coming together."
"You're not upset?" She asks.
