Jake had no time to cry out his happiness anymore, worry had jumped up to his head.
"Your mom invited me to breakfast. I'm excited about meeting your parents!"
'Parents' meant something very particular to Jake. It wasn't a happy word for him, nor was it scary. It just sounded...foreign.
His parents couldn't be called that, since they never took care of their children. Money did.
Jake and his brother had had more nannies than any other household in town, and never had to pronounce the words mom, dad or any of their variants.
Jake's brother was rather proud of their parents who he would call "free spirits" and "modern". He liked the freedom that came with this singular education. But that was because he enjoyed his own status.
Jake's brother was the diamond of the Sim family. The pride of the famous couple. With a five years difference, nothing Jake could have done could overshadow his brother's achievements. He was simply late in life.
Only in highschool, Jake decided to stop working so hard to make his parents proud of him, and just do things for himself. But he was still secretly working to get away from his brother's shadow.
That's why, hearing Heeseung wanted to meet with his parents as his boyfriend awoken a turmoil of bad feelings.
"Do you really want to do this?" asked Jake, grinding his teeth.
"Of course! Who knows when this occasion will come around again?"
Jake was afraid of what his parents would say about Heeseung, if they would be rude to him, but most of all, he was scared about what his parents would say about himself.
Jake put on a fake smile and followed Heeseung downstairs after putting on his clothes, begging silently for the meeting to end very quickly so he could have time alone with Heeseung.
But contrarily to him, Heeseung was a family man, and had no intention to shorten this reunion with Jake's parents.
But then, Jake was surprised when he saw how happily his mom welcomed them to the living-room. Jake's dad was sitting behind her, not deigning addressing even a glance at them, of course.
Until Heeseung said his name.
"Lee Heeseung!? Are you Chairman Lee's son? Incredible! Your father and I know each other really well you know? I see your little quarrel with my son is resolved."
Jake had never seen his father yap like that.
They all sat at the table where a lavish breakfast was already set, and Jake's parents kept asking Heeseung questions with a huge grin on their face.
It was surreal. Jake couldn't remember the last time he had a real conversation with his parents, he would have never imagined that the solution was to date the son of a Mafia boss.
A lifelong broken relationship could not be mended with only a breakfast, but Jake was still relieved that Heeseung wasn't being looked down on or scrutinized.
His mom was swooning over how handsome Heeseung was, while Jake was discovering a whole new side to his man.
Heeseung was effortlessly charming, his smiles were genuine and he never was short of conversation. It wasn't as overwhelming as the fake happy pill he used to act as at uni. It was even intimidating.
It was hot.
Jake had barely finished eating that he was already feeling the need to cut this meeting short to get Heeseung back to his room...
