"Jake! Wait for me!" would shout Heeseung when joining Jake for lunch. And Jake's chest would start tingling.
Heeseung would turn his huge eyes towards Jake, and by some mysterious spell, make them sparkle, and Jake would feel the tingling in the tip of his fingers.
When Heeseung would smile at him, skillfully making it look genuine, Jake's entire body would tingle.
It was a perpetual reaction, that made Jake eager for more. While he was the one trying to make Heeseung addicted to him, he ended up being the one getting hung up on the tingling.
Thankfully, the remedy was simple.
Regularly, Heeseung would grow weary of his mask and would simply go back to his usual cold self, shooting Jake back to reality:
"You're so popular but your friends does not feel like friends. Have they ever seen you get angry, or even slightly irritated?" said Heeseung.
Jake frowned and sighed deeply to keep himself from strangling Heeseung.
"I'm just a calm person."
"HA! You're the most insane person I know! And I'm saying this as a mafia kid."
"Since it's so easy for you, why don't you act like you like me when we're alone as well."
"You know I don't need to do that, and that's why I don't. This is exhausting. But you'll be happy to hear that I don't hate you anymore."
Jake perked up, almost smiling.
"In fact, I pity you."Jake immediately went back to his annoyed look.
"I'll still take this as a win," he sighed.
Heeseung smirked.
Heeseung was actually having the most fun he's had in years. Even if Jake couldn't be considered a friend, he still registered as a human Heeseung could have interactions with, which was a huge improvement from his self-imposed isolation, even if it wasn't supposed to last.
Additionally, Heeseung had also realized how superficial Jake's relationships were. The man showed his true self to no one and was able to keep an act on for the entire day.
Which meant Heeseung was one of the few Jake had shown his true colors to. Which made Heeseung feel like he had some power over him.
Of course, Heeseung also understood that Jake hadn't abandoned his goal of making him his friend, and he could see he was still putting on an act with him sometimes, to charm him.
Jake's act towards him was on point. So much that even knowing his hidden side, Heeseung had a hard time understanding when Jake was pretending.
Jake had this talent at being friendly with everyone, but also making people feel like they were treated specially. Also, even when they were arguing, Jake had this soft tone with Heeseung, as if he couldn't really get angry at him. He was also always trying to get to know Heeseung, asking questions, genuinely listening, and sympathizing. Heeseung had never been treated this way by outsiders.
Of course, he couldn't let himself get swayed by this well-curated act, but he enjoyed it just the same.
What's more, sometimes, Jake was looking at him as if he had said the most interesting thing in the world, even when Heeseung wasn't talking.
Jake would zone out for a second, staring at him with an eager look on his face. Heeseung didn't know what kind of act it was, but it sure was the most effective. When Jake would blush slightly and look at him this way, Heeseung had to fight himself to not ask what it meant.
To defuse this urge, he would usually spit out the most out-of-pocket attack towards Jake, who would immediately get irritated and stop with his disturbing act.
The boys were still bickering on a daily basis, but sometimes, Heeseung caught himself not wanting to defuse any of his urges anymore.
