Jake woke up with difficulty, as always.
He heavily got out of the bed and staggered to his closet to take out clothes for the day.He forgot about the night before, until he met his reflection in the bathroom mirror.
With horror, he noticed the many marks left all over his body. No place was spared. His back, neck, chest and even legs were looking indecent.
He cursed Heeseung while running back to the room.
Hee had disappeared.
Mixed feelings came up to Jake's throat. He was disappointed, he felt betrayed. He also tried to convince himself Heeseung had left simply to be on time for school. Of course, he was also angry. Not even a note was left!
He took his shower and was still fuming when putting on his clothes.
Jake refused to feel miserable. Heeseung was socially awkward after all, maybe this lack of contact was simply a mistake and not pure disrespect.
But when he reached uni, all excuses went to waste. Heeseung was back to ignoring him.
On top of everything, that day was particularly favorable for Heeseung to ignore Jake. The two boys had classes at opposite sides of the building, Jake's last morning course ate up half of his lunch break time, and he had to work at the library with his project group between classes.
This situation ended up making Jake so sad and crestfallen that he decided to simply stop pursuing Heeseung.
His determination of steel had finally been rusted broken.
He thought he captured him and that they exchanged their mutual feelings that night, but apparently, Heeseung had just been swept up by the mood and still wanted nothing to do with him.
Several weeks went on without contact.
Jake's light was dimming day after day. His friends were starting to get worried but couldn't get a word out of him about what was wrong.
"I'm fine, it's just a little stress," he'd systematically answer.
They had a hunch it was because of Heeseung and probably what he said to him that day, but no one dared to approach this weird Heeseung guy. The rumor about him being from the mob were still yet to be proved false after all.
It's three weeks later that by chance, they met in the infirmary.
Jake was sitting on a bed he was forced to lay on after he stumbled in the middle of the corridor, and Heeseung was probably there for something important, because he looked pressed.
"Hee...?" breathed Jake, with not enough energy to be surprised.
"Oh," let out Heeseung.
He stayed at the door, motionless, staring at Jake.
Jake sighed and laid down.
"If you don't want to see me, hurry up with what you have to do and leave, I'm staying on this bed."
Closing his eyes, he waited for Heeseung to leave.
But Heeseung didn't seem in a hurry.
When Jake tried to check, he opened his eyes to see Heeseung's face right in front of his. The shock gave him back all his lost energy.
"Did you give up on me, Jakey?"
Heeseung's deep and laid back voice almost brought tears to Jake's eyes. To keep his composure, he turned away.
"Yes. You made it clear you only wanted a quick fuck. It was the last straw. You won."
Heeseung grabbed Jake's shoulder and turned him back so he would face him.
"I did not only want a quick fuck. You know why I have to be cold like this."
"Then keep being cold and leave me alone!" exclaimed Jake, tears coming closer and closer to his eyes.
"I can't do that."
Heeseung leaned down and came to kiss him.Jake could simply not refuse. He had been waiting for this moment for weeks. Even if he had promised himself to never forgive Heeseung for treating him like this, he couldn't push him away.
"Because it would put you in danger to be seen with me, all I can offer you are little moments like this, so please, keep chasing after me."
This whisper was the last push that made Jake cry. He wrapped his arms around Heeseung and pulled him next to him on the bed. As if these days of loneliness had never happened, they kissed until Heeseung got kicked out of the infirmary by the nurse.
