Heeseung looked into Jake's eyes. He knew.
He knew Heeseung had been putting him in danger on purpose. He knew Heeseung was the reason he was sitting in a hospital right now.
"What I'll do?" repeated Heeseung, straightening up, trying to hide his guilt.
"I'll get rid of them, of course."Jake bursted out laughing.
"Didn't you want all this? They did exactly what you wanted them to do! You wanted to scare me away didn't you?"
Heeseung wasn't laughing.
"Seeing how laid-back you are right now, I see it was no use."
He was trying to be sarcastic, to joke around, but his whole body was trembling. An unfamiliar rage was filling him up the more he looked at Jake's bruised face.
"You can't scare me by hurting me."
"Ah, I forgot you were a first class masochist."
Jake shrugged,
"Love is pain."
Heeseung's rage suddenly got tinted by sadness. He knew Jake was saying this literally.
"Don't look at me with such a sad face. I know you think I'm pathetic, but know that I think the exact same of you."
Heeseung frowned, surprised.
"I may act calm right now, but of course I'm terrified. I got attacked in a neighborhood I thought couldn't be safer, by people I've never met, who beat me up with no explanation. Now, I'm gonna carry this fear probably my whole life.
So, when I think you've carried this fear your whole life, that it was carved into you so deep you drove everyone away, I can't help but feel pity for you."Heeseung had heard people say his lifestyle was scary, or that it was a waste, but not that it was pathetic. This fear Jake was talking about, he had been carrying it for so long it became a part of him, and he stopped noticing it.
His eyes still stuck to Jake, Heeseung asked in a whisper,
"What can I do for you to stay away from me?"
"It's too late now. Why don't you just keep acting exactly how you've acted until now? I'm already traumatized anyway."
Heeseung sighed and let his head fall into his hands, hopeless.
"I'll do what you ask me to do if you tell me more about the ones who attacked you."
