Grounders!

John had left me. I wasn't sure how to feel about it. I was broken that he didn't stay here, but I was relieved he ran and saved himself. I rubbed my face, growling in frustration. I assumed it was better if I wasn't feeling at all, especially when the grounders would be coming. Grounders.

I remember what John said about the war:"I won't let them lay a hand on you"

I sighed. How could he possibly protect me if he ran off like that? He couldn't.

„Are you okay?", Jared asked, standing next to me. I watched him, looking into the woods. He furrowed his eyebrows, squinting his eyes. He was looking into the distance, checking if he saw any grounders.

„No", I answered truthfully and without saying anything else, he grabbed my hand, squeezing it in support. How could people be so caring without even knowing each other for that long? I also couldn't understand how we could run away, now. Leaving our haven seemed completely thoughtless to me. Where were we supposed to go? Especially since Raven wasn't able to walk because Murphy shot her.

„Okay, everybody, we're leaving. Always be on watch. If you see a grounder, don't hesitate to shoot", Bellamy instructed, waving his arm in the direction we were supposed to go. I released the safety catch of my rifle, bringing it up to my face. I glanced back at the drop ship one last time, before walking away. This had been our home for the past few days, we built this camp on our own. I hated leaving it. Octavia didn't look very happy either.

„How long should we keep up with this?"

I looked at her, confused. She sighed, motioning to everyone around us:"The running. We can't run forever, can we?"

„You start to sound like a warrior", I said, impressed. She changed after Atom tied and she met Lincoln. She was that flirtatious, sassy girl that was chasing butterflies and now she seemed to turn into the girl that'd cut your throat if you threatened any of her friends. I liked it.

„If we're lucky, they'll find us soon", I replied sarcastically. Octavia huffed as we continued walking to the trees. We didn't even know where exactly we were going. A boy behind us suggested the beach, telling his friend he'd go surfing first thing when we arrived. I rolled my eyes and Octavia extended her hand, signaling for everyone to stop. The prisoners fell silent. There was a strange drumming sound, no doubt it came from the grounders.

„I don't see anything", Jasper mumbled, just as something flew towards us. I didn't even have time to react as it hit the boy next to me, cutting through his face.

„Grounders!", Jasper screamed and everyone started running. It was a chaos. There was yelling, pathetic sobbing and the thumping of our heavy steps. Luckily, the camp wasn't that far away. Octavia and I were the last ones, assuring everyone was safe.

„Get her to the drop ship", Finn ordered and I nodded, slinging Ravens arm around my shoulder. She looked a bit worried, but I didn't say anything. The grounders were coming and she knew. There was nothing I could have done to comfort her. I knew we were going to die.

We humped inside, placing her on one of the hammocks. She smiled at me weakly:"Promise me to kick some grounders butt, okay?"

I chuckled, nodding. I sure would. I gave her one last smile before skipping outside, just in time to see Clarke and Bellamy arguing. Nothing new.

My hands started to shake and my heart beat faster as I took my place at the wall. I inhaled deeply, trying to focus on the trees. I could do this – We could do this.

„Okay, this is what we've been preparing for. Kill them, before they kill us. Gunners, to your position. Everyone of you outside, use the tunnels. From now on, the gates stay closed", Bellamy ordered in authority. I nodded to myself. Great.

„Ready to fight?", I turned around to see Tyler smirking at me. He did look nervous, though. I nodded, trying to stay calm. I jumped down the rock I've been standing on, ducking as I ran through one of the tunnels. Octavia followed us, ready to fight with her sword.

„I can't believe this is happening", Jared said, under his breath. I didn't know he was a gunner, too. He didn't act like one. He was the fast kind of guy, that'd solve everything with just his mind – not a fighter. I gave him a sorry smile, not being able to think of another way to respond. One moment we're up in space, being locked away from everyone else and the other we fell to the ground, trying to protect ourselves from savages that survived. We were just kids, we weren't supposed to fight a war.

I looked up into the sky, thinking of my Dad. He'd surely be up there somewhere, and watch me. I had faith he'd take care of me, like always. The war drums erupted again, making my eyes widen. This is it. There was a figure, running past us. A guy, next to us started shooting. I tightened my grip around the gun, bringing it up to my face again. A second figure started running, this time I was the one to shoot. I missed.

„Shit", I cursed, getting nervous.

„Bellamy, they don't even attack. It's like shooting a ghost", the guy who shot first, I think his name was Collin, reported. There were more of them, just randomly running by in a flash.

„They are not attacking because they want us to run out of ammo! Don't shoot!", Jasper called out through the radio and I nodded, even though he couldn't see.

„Don't shoot", Tyler mumbled, taking aim anyways. There were many screams, war-cries as tons of grounders came running towards us.

„Shoot!", Jared yelled and we did. I didn't know how many I hit and how many of them I missed, but shooting at them made me feel better. About half of them were falling dead to the ground, another quarter blew up together with the mines we had buried yesterday. There were about five of them still alive, getting dangerously close.

Collin started shooting like a maniac, not caring he wasted all the ammo. The grounder took out his machete, piercing it through his eye. He was dead within seconds. I shot him, getting knocked over by another one. It was dark already and I had trouble seeing, but the grounders eyes were clearly visible through the mask.

„Lexa?", I asked in shock and she nodded, helping me up. Turned out she protected me from another arrow. I thanked her, signaling the others not to kill her.

„You need to run", she hissed, pushing me away from the camp. I was about to protest when I saw how bad this situation was. Grounders were everywhere, no prisoner was outside of the camp anymore, since it wasn't safe. I wasn't sure how long it'd take until Raven would let this whole thing blow up.

„Are you coming with me?", I asked, trying to hide from my enemies. Lexa just shook her head, climbing into the trees. She disappeared and so should I. I cursed under my breath, angry at myself for leaving my friends but I didn't have another choice. I needed to survive. I ran off, as far away as I could. Maybe I could find John and we could fine someplace else.

I turned around one last time, hearing a huge bang. Everything was on fire. The fight was over.
