Oil and lube stained your fingers, not the fun kind of lube. The pungent mechanical kind that reminded you of wiring and hydraulics. There was another thing you needed, hydraulic fluid for the new leg...the leg that you still had to remove in order to replace. The darkness washes back in, the guilt. You shouldn't have let them go. You knew he was dangerous and that they would want to say something to him, but you still let them go.
"Sunshine, you've been checking over that face plate for a while now, are you okay?" Sun asked softly, surprising you in the quiet of the parts and services room, but in a way, you were almost too numb to jump.
"Y-yeah. I'm okay...I...You shouldn't be worrying about me right now, you're the one that's all banged up." You replied, meeting his LEDs for a fraction of a second before nervously ripping them away, unable to maintain the contact.
"Yes, but I am worried about how you're feeling about all this." Sun admitted, reaching out slowly towards you, but you couldn't.
Couldn't stop, if you stopped and let the darkness settle in then you wouldn't be able to start back up again, and you really wanted to be the one to handle their maintenance. Of course, there were plenty of parts and service workers that you trusted, you had gotten to know all of them, and there were only three that you didn't want to work with your boys. None of them were working that night, it was all the good ones, several of which you trusted. So, you could have taken the break...but you couldn't.
You didn't know why; you would have to figure it out with your therapist at your next session...which you would have to have moved up. You were doing so well that she had suggested meeting less frequently, but one email about what you had dealt with the day before yesterday and you knew that she would be able to squeeze you in...
God had it really just been two days since the boogeyman had shown himself back up in your life, two days since your family made it clear exactly how they felt about him, and two days since he had brutally assaulted your boyfriends in an attempt to escape from the police. From what you heard he had tried to escape down the trash shoot when his squirming had turned the thing on. One less boogeyman in the world. Two days ago.
"Love...I really think you need a break." Sun hedged again.
"Do you think I'll mess up or hurt you if I don't rest." You replied, regretting the bite, wishing you could take it back, the way you wished you could take back a lot of what had been happening recently. You wished you could have taken back using Sun's code against him, you wished you could take back letting Moon go to face your demons, you wished you could take back all their hurt.
They lost an eye and a leg for god's sake.
"No...No Love. You're well on your way to being one of the best maintenance staff in the parts and services department. It's just-"
"Then just relax and let me finish patching you up." You interrupted, biting the inside of your cheek, because that hadn't even been the first time in the last hour that you had interrupted him. All he was trying to do was check on you. Sweet, loving, forgiving, ray of Sunshine that he was, and you were being a complete bitch. "Sorry." You whispered out, opening the box with his new leg in it and trying to suck air into your suddenly empty lungs.
"You have nothing to be sorry for, Love." He assured you, but you did, you do, and after that one hushed apology you couldn't stop.
You throw your arms around his shoulders, burrowing into his narrow chest, crying out your apologies. You had been a bitch to them for two days, trying to crush down your own worry by pushing Sun and Moon away, biting short any questions and it wasn't fair to them.
He shushed you gently, but still allowed you to cry against him, as he smoothed down your hair.
"We both...well, all of us. All three of us did what we had to to keep our children safe alright, and were proud of you...I really don't mind about the code that much, because you had to keep Dj safe right? Then Moon had to go keep an eye on the suspect, right? To keep the kids safe...there's nothing to apologize for since we were all doing what we were supposed to." Sun assured you, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
