Avalon sat on the quinjet picking at her fingernails, trying to hide her nerves. When did this become her life? When she was kidnapped by Hydra all those years ago, she thought they would just kill her instead of experimenting on her. They injected her with different serums to see what the results would be. Day after the day, the same routine, wake up, get injected with serum, blood tested, training to fight like a soldier on command, test blood again and maybe sleep for an hour. Some days they would forget to feed her.

Eventually, she developed powers and even mutated to grow wings. She could fly, had quick healing abilities  and throw energy from her hands to defeat her enemies. When Hydra's famous experiment, the Winter Soldier, was apprehended by The Avengers, they started moving their bases. Unfortunately, The Avengers raided one of their bases last year and freed Avalon. Unfortunate for Hydra, but fortunate for her. The Winter Solider, or Bucky as he's known now, helped her acclimate to her new life. When Hydra was not wiping his memories, he became a friend to her on the inside. She had missed him while he was gone.  To be reunited with him helped the transition to a somewhat normal life. To have someone to talk to since they shared the same experience and the same nightmares.  Her life was going great until three months ago, when HE arrived. HE being the God of Mischief, Loki. His brother Thor brought him to The Avengers tower as penance for his destruction on New York. Instead of rotting away in a cell on Asgard, Thor begged his father to have Loki come back to Earth and show he's changed by living among the Midgardians.

The first two months, Loki stayed in his room and  refused to even acknowledge 'these pathetic mortals' as he would call them. One night, Avalon couldn't sleep so she went up to the roof thinking she was alone. Unbeknownst to her Loki was sitting in a corner, enjoying the cool air while reading a book. Avalon climbed on the ledge of the balcony. Before she could jump off, she felt a cold hand on her ankle, making her yelp in surprise.

"Are you insane?" Loki asked her.  He quickly wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her off the ledge and flush against him. He felt her shoulders moving and thought she was crying so he held her tightly. "No need to end your life. What troubles you, kitten?"

When Avalon pulled away from him, she wiped the tears from her eyes but it was from laughter. She doubled over and laughed some more.

"What is so amusing?" Loki said through clenched teeth.

Avalon composed herself. "I wasn't trying to kill myself." Seeing the confused look on his face, she figured he didn't know she could fly. He folded his arms across his chest, waiting for an explanation. "I'll show you what I was about to do." She climbed on the ledge again.  He took a step forward but she shook her head. "Watch." Avalon rolled her shoulders as her wings spread out. White, iridescent feathers that stretch at least 5 feet apart.  She looked over her shoulder to find Loki with his mouth agape. Before he could do or say anything, she jumped. She glided up,  past him but not before she saw the look of awe on his face. She flapped her wings so she could go higher and then tucked them close to shoot straight down from the sky. Before she would hit the ground, she opened her wings again and glided up, flapping them until she was back near the balcony. She landed on the ledge and rolled her shoulders, tucking her wings away. That was the beginning of their friendship.

They would spend most of their days together, training or just watching movies. Avalon was teaching him how to live among the mortals. When everyone was asleep, she and Loki would go up to the roof and read to each other. He was helping her with her powers.  It was a nice friendship. From time to time, he would pass her in the hallway and lightly brush her hand or when he would get too close to her in the kitchen, he would whisper his apology in her ear, making her shiver. She was developing feeling for the God of Mischief, strong feelings. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, she tried to hide it. Natasha caught her blushing one day when Loki was coming out of the training room, sweaty. Avalon made Nat swear to keep her secret.
