Stable Boy

"Father I beg of you, please don't do this to me," Revna, Princess of Alfheim, pleaded.

Einard, King of Alfheim looked down at his only daughter. "It has been done. You are as good as married." He turned and walked into the throne room. The guard shut the door, blocking Revna from following. She stared down the guard with clenched fists, then turned in a huff, running to her room where her mother was waiting. Revna collapsed into her mother's arms.

"Please, mother. Don't make me go."

Helga held her daughter, looking into her sad light brown eyes, face tear streaked. She smoothed the hair out from her eyes. "Hush now. All will be well. It is your duty to the crown to marry a prince. If you had just gone to court like the others and found a suitable husband, you wouldn't have had to force your father's hand. For two years, we indulged in your lack of interest in court but now duty calls."

"He's probably old and fat. That's why the prince of Asgard hasn't married," Revna said to make herself feel better.

"Nonsense. I'm sure your father would not do that to you. Now let's figure out what you want to take so we can have the maids pack for you. We leave in the morning," her mother said.

Meanwhile in Asgard, Loki just stormed out of the throne room after Odin gave him the news. Queen Frigga followed him to the library. Whenever Loki was upset, he would go straight to the library to relax. Books were always a comfort to him.

He noticed she walked into the room after him. "Please mother, I am not good company right now." Loki started pacing.

Frigga sat in a chair nearby as she watched him pace. "Your father did what was best," she started.

"For him. I wasn't even consulted. I thought this was my life." He tried not to yell but his voice automatically raised, vibrating throughout the walls.

Frigga let out a long, slow breath. Loki needed to understand this was a necessity. He really didn't have a choice. The deed has been done. "You would have never agreed and we need this alliance."

Loki huffed. Of course he would never have agreed. He never wanted to marry. He enjoyed his books and his magic. If he needed his urges tamed, there were plenty of women and men that would satisfy him. He refused to commit to one person for the rest of his life. He was angry at everyone, especially Thor. He was the one who should be in this predicament. Instead, he married Sif for love. Now he had to sacrifice himself for the good of Asgard. He rolled his eyes. "So when does my intended arrive?" he said with a sneer.

Frigga was glad he finally accepted the inevitable. "Tomorrow."

"Tomorrow!" Loki yelled.

Revna woke up and groaned. Today was the day she would meet her betrothed. She threw the sheet over her head again praying she would just disappear.

"Wake up Princess Revna, today is a glorious day," her maid, Iona said as she threw open the curtains.

"For you perhaps. Today is execution day for me."

Iona rolled her eyes. "So dramatic Princess Revna." She walked over and pulled the sheet back. "Come now. We must get ready. I believe we will actually use the bifrost to arrive at Asgard. So exciting."

Revna tried to be excited. She had never even seen the bifrost, let only travel in it. The only drawback would be she would arrive that much quicker and then her freedom would be over. Stuck in a loveless marriage. Revna refused to cry. She will not show anyone how much she hated this.

The royal guard escorted them to the location where the bifrost would open. Only the king, queen, Revna, Iona and a sergeant at arms were allowed to enter the bifrost. Once they arrived, Heimdall, the gatekeeper of Asgard, greeted them. Revna took in her surroundings. A large golden room surrounding by golden markings and dials. Heimdall stood at the center of it, holding his sword which was encased in what looked like the operating mechanism to the bifrost. He sent her a smile as she nodded. Her mother grabbed her by the arm as Revna kept looking around the room, very impressed. They were escorted to the palace.
