Dymara barely had time to mourn her mother's passing before her father told her he was shipping her off to the queen of Asgard who happened to be her mother's best friend. Dymara was to go to court and marry immediately. Her mother shielded her from her father when she turned of age to marry. Believing one should marry for love and not necessity. Every time the subject was mentioned, her mother would change the topic. Now her only savior was gone and she was going to be forced to marry because her father never wanted a daughter. Her mother had given birth to three sons but none of them lived past two years. Then she was born and her mother never became pregnant again much to the disgust of her father. He made it a point to remind both of them what a disappointment they were to him. Secretly she was glad to be leaving her home. It wasn't a home now that her mother was gone.

Dymara looked out the carriage window at all the pretty sights. The busy street vendors as they drove through town, children running happily in the streets.  Once they turned the corner, she saw the palace, making her palms sweat. This would probably be the last time she would be free. Her father probably told the queen to get her married to the first available suitor, the minute she set foot on the palace grounds. Anyone, even if he was old and balding. That thought made her shiver. She was past the suitable age of marriage and she was fine with that. Dymara would prefer being alone than be in a miserable marriage like her poor mother.

The carriage came to a halt and a footman opened it, escorting her out of the carriage. She took a deep breath and looked up at the golden building in front of her. One of the queen's maids approached her.

"Good day Lady Dymara, my name is Claudia. I am here to get you settled and take you to the queen," she said as she curtsied.

Dymara sent the petite girl a smile. It was rare to find someone shorter than her. Claudia turned and led Dymara towards the castle, into the main hall and down a few corridors until she opened the door to her new bedroom. The other footmen came in with her trunks, setting them down around her room. This bedroom was very much larger than her room in her home.

"I shall take my leave now and come to you within the hour. I believe the queen shall send you a maid of your own in a few days." Claudia turned to leave.

"Thank you so much, Claudia," Dymara said as she sent her a smile. Claudia turned, curtsied and took her leave.

Dymara was already sitting at her new desk, opening the drawers, fascinated that this large room was all hers. The bed alone was as big as her old room. Just like a child, she ran towards the bed and jumped on it, laughing as she bounced on it. The door to her right caught her eye, she got up and opened it to find her own private bathroom. Her windows opened to the balcony where she stood overlooking the gardens below. Taking a deep breath, she smiled for the first time in a long time. Freedom. Will she every find a man to love or was she just destined to live the rest of her life in the palace as the queen's ward? A knock on her door brought her out of her deep thought.

"Enter," she said expecting to be Claudia or her new maid. Instead, the queen entered. Dymara immediately curtsied.

"Oh please, we're family. Come her and give me a hug," Frigga ordered. Dymara ran into her embrace. "I'm so sorry about Gwendolyn. She was my dearest friend." Those words released a floodgate of emotions. Dymara began to cry. Queen Frigga just held her knowing this was probably the first time she was allowed to grieve for her mother. Frigga held the petite girl and stroked her light brown hair. "Let it out. You're safe here."

Dymara took a deep breath and pulled away from her, wiping her eyes. "Thank you, My Queen."

Frigga shook her head. "Dymara, like I said before we're family. It's Frigga."
