A few days after leaving Dewford Island, the gang arrived at Slateport City where the next Pokémon contest was. Cora had sent Mavis (Mew) and Keesha (Farfetch'd) back to the lab for some rest. She brought back Finn (Mudkip), Koba (Treecko) and Lancelot (Kirlia).
Cora had already decided who would be in the next Pokémon Contest which was Serenity (Shiny Latias) who was very interested in participating in one when she saw a Pokémon Contest on the TV at Oak's lab. Cora wanted to let her give it a shot.
May was also excited for her first Pokémon contest. Max and Cora advised her that she should start training her Pokémon for the contest.

At the moment, the gang (Cora, Alain and Mairin) were at an isolated part of a beach where they could practice for the upcoming contest.
"Okay Serenity, are you ready to start training for the contest?" Cora asked.
Serenity nodded happily.
"Okay, let's practice." Cora declared.

An hour went by, and Cora believed that Serenity's performance was perfect. So Cora returned Serenity to her Pokéball and she, Alain and Mairin headed back to the others.

When they met up with the others, they saw May yelling at a green haired boy. Cora recognized the boy as Drew, May's rival. The boy was extremely arrogant to her point of view.

"Do you have to be so arrogant towards everyone you meet?" Cora spoke up, her left hand on her left hip.
Everyone turned to Cora.
"Who are you?" Drew asked.
"Cora Joy." Cora replied.
"Cora Joy? Wait a minute, are you Cora Joy, the Rustboro Contest Winner?" Drew questioned, shocked.
Cora nodded, "That's right. I am." She confirmed.
Drew's shock expression soon turned into a smug one.
"Cora here is the only one here who can rival me since she has grace, precision, style and beauty. Technically speaking; she has everything you don't have." Drew retorted to May.
May then becomes enraged and lunges at him, but he just holds his hand up to her face and casually pushes her back.
