[4] The Daughter of Nurse Joy: Hoenn Adventure

Qualifying Rounds

Today was an exciting day because the Qualifying battles of the Ever Grande Conference were starting today. Ash, Tyson, Morrison and the gang were at the Pokémon Center, waiting for instructions of the battles. Nurse Evelyn Joy told the trainers the instructions; the rules for the qualifying rounds were that the 256 trainers had to battle in three matches, all double battles, and only 32 trainers had to win all three to make it to the final rounds. If they lost just one battle they would be out of the tournament.

"Wow, sounds like this will be hard, especially since you can't lose one battle if you want to get to the next round." May commented.

"Yeah, but I'll beat all three of my opponents no matter what." Cora said, confidently.

"That goes double for me." Morrison declared.

It wasn't long until the Qualifying Rounds started. These rounds were being held in the mini stadiums that stood in the inner circle that surrounded the main stadium. The gang and Tyson had watched Morrison's battle which he won with his Growlithe and Gligar and his opponent, Gavin, who had a Marowak and Machamp. So he was able to move onto the next round.

Later that day was Cora's turn to battle and she faced a trainer named Dominick. Ash and Morrison were watching this battle with the others. She had won against his Swalot and Tropius with Circe (Grumpig) and Shula (Torkoal).

It had been a long day for Cora, Ash, Morrison and Tyson with the Qualifying Rounds. Tyson also won his first double battle round. But they still had another two battles to go before they could battle in the final battles.

That day was filled with more double battles for the qualifying rounds. The 128 trainers, including Cora, Ash, Morrison and Tyson, who made it past the first rounds of the Qualifying rounds, were desperate to get to the final rounds. Cora, Ash, Morrison and Tyson defeated their opponents and made it to the third round. So by then there were now 64 trainers left.

The next day, Cora was going against her last opponent; a trainer named Garrett. He let out Machamp and Camerupt. Cora called out Eris (Mawile) and Finn (Swampert) to battle this time.

"Finn, Water Gun on Camerupt! Eris, use Fairy Wind on Machamp!" Finn launched his water attack at Camerupt and Eris launched her fairy attack on Machamp.

Machamp and Camerupt both got direct hits by the attacks which caused them to grunt in pain.

"Machamp, use Cross Chop! Camerupt, use Take Down!" Garrett ordered. 

Machamp and Camerupt head straight towards Eris and Finn. 

Eris and Finn were waiting for their trainer's next command as their opponents got closer.

"Dodge!" Eris and Finn dodged their attacks, "Eris, use Play Rough on Machamp! Finn, use Hydro Pump!" Eris grabbed Machamp's arm and started tossing him around roughly. Finn shot a powerful stream of water at Camerupt's face.

Both Pokémon were surprised by attacks. Machamp was shocked by Eris's strength and Camerupt was pushed back by Finn's Hydro Pump.

"Machamp, Camerupt, are you okay?" Garrett called out.

Machamp and Camerupt grunted as they stood back up.

"Okay then, Machamp, use Bullet Punch on Mawile! Camerupt, use Heavy Slam on Swampert!" Garrett ordered.

Machamp's fists glow light blue as it ran towards Eris and Camerupt's body becomes surrounded by a yellow aura for a second. It then becomes outlined in yellow and charged towards Finn.

"Finn, use Protect on you and Eris!" Cora countered.

Finn quickly got in front of Eris and projected a green colored barrier, protecting them from Machamp and Camerupt's attacks which caused them to pounce back from the barrier.

"Now Finn, use Surf! Eris, ride on Finn's back!" Cora ordered.

Finn summoned a huge wave of water as Eris jumps onto Finn's back. Machamp and Camerupt's eyes in shock when they get doused with water. The water soon subsided; both Pokémon were soaked with water.

"Eris, use Thunder Punch!" Electricity gathered around Eris's right fist. Then she jumps off Finn's back and punches the ground near Machamp and Camerupt. Then the two are electrocuted. When the electricity subsided, Machamp and Camerupt were still standing with sparks coming off of them. Then the two fainted. 

"Machamp and Camerupt are unable to battle! The winners are Mawile and Swampert! Victory goes to Cora Joy!" The referee announced.

The crowd cheered at Cora's victory.

With her third win at hand, Cora is now moving onto battle in the final rounds.
