2 hours passed by, it was already 11:30pm. The city had quietened down, only left with the rhythmic sounds of the rain pouring harshly. The ambience was cold and withering, damping the atmosphere. It had a cosy and restful perception though. Cans of beer piled up the table at where Dazai had been drinking, and then closed his book, walking over to the couch, resting beside Chika.
I opened my eyes, finding Dazai sitting on the floor and leaning his back on the couch's lower part. An inexpressible sensation filled my body, it was uneasy but relieving at the same time. His head then turned around, facing me.
"You're awake? Seemed like you had a good sleep there. The food is on the table, let's have a very late dinner." Dazai said gently.
I got up, and we walked to the table, sitting down.
---
"Thanks for the food!" We said simultaneously with happiness at the dining table.
I picked up the chopsticks, selecting the delicacies and devouring them into my mouth as Dazai opened a can of soda and placed it on my left. I ate like it was the best nourishments in the world, because it was truly cravings that I haven't had in a long time.
"Thanks." I acknowledged while noticing the empty cans placed aside. He must be a moderate drinker to not get drunk after so many cans...is he sober?
"Tell me Chika, how did you even choose to come to the agency and apply for a job as such?" Dazai put in question.
"The place where I stayed kicked me out since the start of the week, and I've been taking my nights at random cheap places. Realising that I needed a job after spending most of my savings. Since the detective agency was surprisingly close to school and I'm sure there will be a good pay, I chose here."
Dazai gave an empathetic expression, though seemly not surprised by my explanations anymore. He then explained, "You'll have a new guardian now, and we'll have new arrangements made too, as you are an official member of the agency. I will go get you belongs tomorrow from your previous residence too. Sounds good?"
I nod in felicity, assimilating the fact that one can do so much for me, who's a useless human being, born to just make up the numbered population of the world.
By the time we finished, it was already past midnight. Midnight is such a curious time, isn't it? Far from dusk, further from dawn, yet the middle, the end, the restart. It's a sweet embrace of starry black, a fresh chance to dream anew.
We finished cleaning the mess shortly, and Dazai walked into his room, as in search for something. When he got out, he seems a little irritated.
"You went into my room, haven't you?" He protested.
I was startled. How did he knew?
"The piece of wood is cracked between the sliding doors, I left it there. But in whatever context it is, I told you to have a look around, there's no wrong doings." Dazai signed helplessly, then pointed to the bathroom door. "It's Monday tomorrow, I won't forbid you to go to school, go get cleaned up and take a proper sleep." He then walked into his room again, shutting the door from behind with a little force.
A chill went down my spine. How could I not notice such a detectable thing?
Calming myself down, I walked into the shower, only to realise that I don't even have a change of clothes. A knock then came from the door. I look behind to see the entrance open a slight bit, as an arm with bandages puts a cotton loose looking clothe on the sink counter. I could see Dazai's eyes looking away through the mirror, reflecting a narrow gap between the door and frame. He then closed the door shut, leaving me along inside the bathroom.
As I turned on the shower, water poured as perfect sensation, warm and steady, awakening my skin in all the right ways. It was refreshening and flourishing, I wished I could stay there all day in its cocoon, but the day awaits. I closed the shower, and slipped the clothing on. It was a pair of plain oversized pyjamas, though very comforting, probably Dazai's.
Lights were off, it was pitch dark when I exited. Dazai's room's door was closed, he probably drifted off to sleep already. I headed to the empty room, opened the light, only to find a nicely set out Shikifuton with a Kakebuton and pillow above. I crawled into it, tightening myself with the pieces, making myself comfortable before pulling the trigger to make the light turn off. The soothing senses made me doze off within minutes, awaiting another chaos tomorrow.
Cigarette smokes puffed into the air before the man inhaled more. Dazai glanced at the midnight sky, the moon was putting on a show. Dark light honoured the Earth. Everything was as chaotic as a galaxy and as still as a moonlit lake. Wild serenity filled every moment. Dazai's mind processed through what had happened recently. A mysterious girl appearing, claiming herself as an orphan, desiring for a job. She seemed like an offering from God, or is she a gift from the Devil?
He took one last exhale of the cigarette, and dropped it before extinguishing it. Dazai headed into the building and washed himself up. By the time he was finished, it was only a few hours before sunrise. Chika was sleeping peacefully in the dark room when Dazai opened the door gently, trying to make no noise. The Kakebuton lay soft on her skin, keeping in the warmth of her body, allowing her to dream as the stars shone brightly in the night sky. He took one last check at her before he, himself, went to bed.Dazai had a prospected feeling, that in a short amount of time, mysteries will eventually unravel.
(Hellooooooo! I've made a rough sketch of Chika now; it is very vague...

As you can see, I haven't even draw the face. I'll add more details to it when I come back from camp. Mentioning camp, it's a week, so I can't write for a week. I'll come back as a dead corpse because it's survival camp, where I have to live like a wild man. But thank you for the reads, I didn't expect anyone to read it at first. Byebye!( ̄︶ ̄)↗ )
