As much as I want them to be, the characters are not mine. They're J. K. Rowling's and Uncle Rick's.

After Draco ran out of the compartment squeaking and mumbling to himself, Harry looks at me.

"What the heck was that about?!" exclaims the Boy Who Lived. I glance back at the door

"I know as much as you do, Harry." After what feels like forever, the castle finally comes into view.

"Annabeth would love this place," I murmur.

"What?" Harry questions.

"Nothing!" is my hasty reply.

"We should probably get our robes on now," says Neville.

"Yeah. You guys probably should," I respond.

"You guys?" Harry questions. "You have to put on robes too. Don't you?" I grin.

"Nope," I tell him. "Since I'm an exchange student, I don't have to wear robes till I feel completely comfortable at school. And I highly doubt that's going to happen." Everyone looks at me strangely but change into their robes.

Time Skippity Skip...

Once we get off the train, we're right in front of the castle. And when I think of the castle, I keep thinking about architecture, which causes me to think about Annabeth, which makes me think of Percy, and then I think about Will and question myself whether he'll actually IM me or not. Why's is he supposed to IM me? 'Cause you know. Doctor's orders

"First years line up over here, please! All first years to me!" calls out a brisk female voice.

"Where's Hagrid?" Harry questions.

"I don't know," Ginny begins, "but we're blocking the doorway."

I remember Dumbledore telling me to go with the first years to get shorted or something. I don't know why any first years would need to be any shorter than they are but I'm gonna go with the first years. After I get to pet my fa-dad's thestrals.

They look almost like reptilian horses with bat wings and can only be seen by people who have seen death. So of course, everyone thinks they're bad luck. But since I'm Hades son, I understand what that's like and can understand they're unique horse language.

"My Lord," the thestrals tell me bowing. "It's an honor to meet you."

"And you." I give them a knowing smile and ask, "Can anyone see you?"

"Only a handful. And even those mortals typically avoid us."

"I'm sorry they can't appreciate you. You truly are magnificent." They whinny, clearly pleased with what I told them.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

So I walk over to find a lady holding a lantern up and yelling for first years to come over to the lake.

Time Skippity Skip...

I stand in the castle soaking wet and cursing Poseidon for making my boat flip over. Seriously, just because I'm a son of Hades doesn't mean he has to hate me! Anyways, I follow Mrs. McGonagall to the Great Hall. But before we get there, I see shimmering figures float towards us. Then they see me. I curse under my breath. What are ghosts doing here?! After seeing me though, they dart out of the room with me glaring at them and make a mental note to do something about them later.

As we enter the Great Hall, I notice four tables with different colors and a hat on a stool. I stare at the hat with a confused look when it starts singing.

In times of old when I was new
And Hogwarts barley started
The founders of our noble school
Thought never to be parted:
United by a common goal
They had the selfsame yearning,
To make the world's best magic school
And pass along there learning.
"Together we Wil build and teach!"
The four good friends decided
And never did they dream that they
Might someday be divided,
For were there such good friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor?
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?
So how could it have gone so wrong?
How should such friendships fail?
Why I was there and so I can tell
The whole sad, sorry tale.
Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those
Whose ancestry is purest."
Said Ravenclaw, "We'll teach just those whose
Intelligence is surest."
Said Gryffindor, "We'll teach those
With brave deeds to their name,"
Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot,
And treat them just the same."
These differences caused little strife
When they first came to light,
For each of the four founders had
A House in which they might
Take only those they wanted, so,
For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning just like him,
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to daring Gryffindor.
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest,
And taught them all she knew,
Thus the Houses and their founders
Retained friendships firm and true.
So Hogwarts worked in harmony
For several happy years,
But then discord crept among us
Feeding on our failures and fears.
The Houses that, like pillars four,
Had once held up our school,
Now turned upon reach other and,
Divided, sought to rule.
After a while it seemed the school
Must meet an early end,
What whith dueling and with fighting
And the clash of friend on friend
And at last there came a morning
When old Slytherin departed
And though the fighting then died out
He left us quite downhearted.
And never since the founders four
We're whittled down to three
Have the Houses been united
As they once were meant to be.
And now the Sorting Hat is here
And you all know the score:
I sort you into Houses
Because that is what I'm for,
But this year I'll go further,
Listen closely to my song:
Though condemned I am to split you
Still I worry that it's wrong,
Though I must fulfill my duty
And must quarter every year
Still I wonder whether sorting
May not bring the end I fear.
Oh, know the perils, read the signs,
The learning history shows,
For our Hogwarts is in danger
From external deadly foes
And we must unite inside her
Or we'll crumble from within.
I have told, I have warned you....
Let the Sorting now begin.

Well. That's not something you see everyday. A weak and hesitant applause echoes throughout the Great Hall.

And then Mrs. McGonagall calls out, "Abercrombie, Euan."

He slowly made his way to the stool, sat down, and put the hat on his head. For a second everything was silent.

Then... "Gryffindor!" the hat yelled. I jumped a bit. The little boy ran to sit at the table with red and gold. Mrs. McGonagall keeps calling out names and the hat says a funny word before the kid sits down. I figure out where to go depending on the word the hat calls out.

Then finally, she calls out, "di Angelo, Nico. Our first transfer student." A quiet murmur goes through the crowd as I walk up to the stool.

I set the hat on my head and it yelps.

"Get me off this boy's head! Please! He's definitely in..."
