-Thirty Years Ago-
Eugene and his ship crew were sailing back from their previous mission, fighting an Alaskan Bull Worm that had wandered too close to the outskirts of Bikini Bottom. That's when it happened. The day Patrick Star descended.
A strong storm like no other had halted their return. It had started with seemingly no warning. The sea was throwing them left and right, the wind threatening to throw the men overboard. It was as if they were in the middle of a cyclone, with something ominous in the epicenter attempting to draw them in. The clouds and waves were blocking the center, but Eugene could sense something deep within the storm calling to him.
While Eugene was staring into the storm, his navy comrade Torpedo Belly approached unnoticed by the crab.
"Eugene! Aye Eugene!!!" The crab startled to attention. "Captain Scarfish ordered that we go below deck, most of the crew has been washed overboard so we can't afford to lose anyone else."
Eugene looked deep into Torpedo Belly's eyes. He felt as if he were frozen in fear, unable to process anything the large dilf fish said. Torpedo Belly recognized this, as he had become accustomed to all of his navy boyfriends' nonverbal tells. He grabbed Eugene suddenly, crashing their lips (?) together in a fit of preservation and passion. Their teeth gnashed together as the storm behind them raged and screamed as if to say "I know what you are."
The two men pulled away, a string of spit getting blown away in the salty wind. "Torpedo Belly," Eugene began. "Something isn't right about this storm. There's something no, someone in that storm. Someone dangerous." Torpedo Belly knew that Eugene had a heightened sixth sense from his years of training with ultra instinct Joe Biden in the rugged forests of Madagascar, so it would be wise to trust his judgement.
"What do you propose we do about this storm then?" Torpedo Belly asked. "Is it super natural or-"
"NO, THIS IS PATRICK!!!" A voice bellowed from the storm. Patrick shot out of the cyclone like an obese arrow, blasting a donut hole right through the torpedo in Torpedo Belly's stomach causing it to detonate. Eugene didn't have time to grieve however, as the star suddenly had his stubs around the crab's neck. He slammed Krabs into the deck of the ship, causing him to black out.
Eugene came to lying on a beach he didn't recognize. He saw the mangled bodies of all of his comrades strewn across the sand, their blood washing away into the ocean. Why had he been spared?
As if to read his mind, the star spoke. "I spared you because I sense something unique within you. You're not as strong as the others, but you have some skills that could be of use to me," the sea star said matter-of-factly. He hopped down from the large rock (not boulder) he had been standing on. He began to approach Eugene.
"Wh-why?" was all that Eugene could muster. Patrick let out a hearty laugh.
"Why? WHY??? AHAHAHAHAHA, YOU AMUSE ME EUGENE HAROLD KRABS. I will let you live. My name is Patrick Star and I was sent here by someone far beyond your comprehension. As long as you don't interfere with me, I will let the citizens of Bikini Bottom live in peace. But the second you even attempt to involve yourself in things that don't concern you, say goodbye to your precious life." Patrick sashayed away.
-Current Time-
"Eugene...I.." Squidward came to a painful realization. "This is all because of me."
