DANI WINCED AS BILLY'S choice of music assaulted her ears, feeling as though her eardrums would shatter at any moment. The loud punk music reverberated within the confines of the car, drowning out any attempt at conversation. The ginger shot a pleading glance toward her sister through the rearview mirror, silently commiserating with her over the auditory torture they were enduring together. Despite the noise and upcoming migraine, Dani couldn't help but notice the slight smile that tugged at the corners of Max's lips, a sign that she was adjusting to life in Hawkins more quickly than expected.
As Billy revved the engine and accelerated toward Hawkins Middle School, Dani braced herself for the inevitable spectacle their arrival would cause. With the windows rolled down, they made quite the entrance, the sounds of their stepbrother's music echoing across the parking lot as they pulled in. Dani frowned as heads began to turn in their direction, some curious, others amused by the audacity of their display.
