"Would you like to have anything, Ms. Quinn?" Sarah squirmed in her seat when he asked her that. Looking around she tried to avoid looking at him and shook her head before eventually using her voice to answer him, "No, thank you."
He let out a chuckle at her anxious form, the confidence she was wearing the other day was nowhere in sight at that moment. He preferred her like that, "It will take a while so I suggest you have something." He advised, his voice hinting the mockery that was easy to detect and it made her sneered internally.
"Why have you requested to meet me, Mr. Thorne?" Sarah asked, coming directly to the point. It was getting late and she needed to be at her home. Hence, she had no time to spare.
"Did I?" He raised his brow at her and completed when he saw the confusion taking shelter on her face, "I did not request." He clarified. He had just called Sarah and had asked her to meet him at his office, threatening her with the consequences of losing the project otherwise. No request was made from his side.
She had contemplated his words and decided it was better not to test him. He was a man of power and there was no reason he would not use it against them.
"Why have you asked me to meet, Mr. Thorne?" She rephrased her question, her eyes were glaring at him to let him know that all she wanted was to leave from there.
"I am curious to confirm if the rumours I have heard about you are true?" He started, leaning back on his chair as he eyed her up and down, trying to see through her.
"I have told you the other day that I do not care about the rumours, wasn't I clear enough?" She retorted, the fire of anguish sparked in the pit of her chest at his ridiculous excuse.
"Oh! But you will, Sarah, because I do." He stopped, taking a deliberate pause before finally letting out what he had to say, "so tell me what is going on between you and Easton?"
Her eyes widened and breath hitched for a second but she forced herself to not show the affect his words made and chose to feign ignorance, "He is my boss. I am just working as his assistant."
Alastair let out a loud chuckle at her robotised response and smiled with the glint of evilness, "You know, Sarah, for a woman of confidence you are pretty bad at lying. But since I am feeling generous, I will give you a chance to redeem yourself." He stated with a warning tone, "Try again."
She looked him straight in the eyes before daring to question him, "How can you be so sure that I am lying, Mr. Thorne?" She asked, paying no heed to his warning.
His smile only widened upon her question and he simply answered, "Because I know the truth." The confidence his voice held made her scared. She felt anxious and almost felt lost as she thought of a way to end this conversation in her favour.
"A truth is not the truth if you need an act of confirmation to believe it." Her witty response made the smile from his face vanish and he curled his fingers tightly and glared at her.
"Easton is cheating on Lily with you." He announced loudly and banged his hand on the table when he saw her open her mouth to deny it. "And don't you dare fucking lie to me, woman!"
Sarah flinched in horror at the act of violence and the aggressive tone. The fear she had covered with the thick layer of confidence started to unveil itself in her heart and she shivered in horror.
