The van door opens, to reveal Charles and Amelia blinking in confusion.

Tonight is a FIA event, and the flashiest one of the whole wink in Monaco. When they offered me a ride last night they were expecting to only be riding with me.

How quickly things change. "You guys look amazing." I don't offer an explanation for my other half popping up from the other side of the globe

"Chad," All my other half offers in answer once we're inside. Leaning against the seat I try and fail to compose myself.

"Charles, pleasure." The driver extends a hand but his tone says it is anything but a pleasure. He's always so defensive of Amelia, so after their first interaction this isn't off to a great start either. Pressing my head into my chest I try hard as I can to draw a deep breath.

Amelia reaches for my knee, panic in her eyes when they connect. "Everything okay love?"

Chad adjust his tie, uncomfortable. Charles looks about ready to throw a table. The brit speaks for me, "She's just so excited to see me."

"She didn't ask you." Charles tone is biting.

Finding the strength to sit back up, "A real surprise." Trying to smooth things over in the van.

"We've been together for years, I can speak for her." Chad's voice is even and calm.

The couple across from us frowns, and me with them. No point in explaining anything to Chad now because we're under an hour from destination break up town.

The must fucked up part of all is a large bit of my anxiety is stemming from Max's reaction.

I don't have to see him at the party to know Max is mad at me. He's been distant since he ran into Fernando and I.

To be honest, so have I.

It's exactly why I avoided his boat ride.

Things haven't been the same since.

He hasn't said he's mad at me but I've been noting him leaving texts on read quite a bit.

Showing up with Chad tonight is just going to be the cherry on top.

This he really won't like.

Something must be wrong with me, truly. This is so stupid showing up here with him but the way he caught me I completely panicked and now I've absolutely bumbled the whole affair.

The only upside I can possibly imagine is that it is categorically safer to break up with him in public than in private, if our last fight has anything to say about it.

The van doors open again and immediately all I can see is camera flashes. Charles and Amelia climb out first, walking the red carpet together.

Now that, I am not doing.
