small angst to get the book started

"Grow up, Kaveh." Alhaitham crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, as if this was the most civil conversation they ever had. It was, in fact, the opposite. "It might be ludicrous for me, of all people, to say this, but in everyone's eyes you're just a dumb blonde."

Kaveh scowled, a flash of pain eminent in his eyes. His mouth opened, but nothing came out.
Why wasn't he insulting him back? A lump arose in his throat and he swallowed, turning around abrubtly and walking into the bathroom. Footsteps, a door slam, and rummaging.

Alhaitham sighed in exasperation. Why were they roommates in the first place? He sat down, pinching the bridge of his nose before selecting a book from the table beside the couch. He flipped through the pages, trying to block out the noises coming from the bathroom.
Seconds turned to minutes, and the sound was driving Alhaitham crazy. He glanced at the bathroom door from time to time, trying to see what Kaveh was even doing. After several more minutes passed, he closed his book and got up, walking to the bathroom silently.

He raised his hand to knock on the door, but hesitated. Kaveh wouldn't answer, would he? His hand rested on the doorknob before he opened it swiftly.

There was Kaveh, scissors in hand, and blonde hair scattered on the counter. His hair was short, and Alhaitham didn't like it. It looked out of place... wasn't his longer hair something that made him recognizable? Something that made Alhaitham drawn to him? No, he wasn't drawn to him, he didn't even care if he did anything different with his hair... did he?

The silence stretched between them two. Alhaitham's eyes darted from the scissors, to the counter, to Kaveh's hair, and back again.

"...What have you done?"
