There was a stunned silence in the group. Steve was bright red, considering that he had kissed Sharon once. Sam's eyes were wide as saucers and even Tony couldn't seem to find anything to say.
"She helped you guys and what did you do in return? You made her enemy of the state! Even after Thanos was gone, you never tried to help her!" Melody said angrily. You could almost swear her eyes were glistening with tears, though she would never admit it now. "My mother had to be on the run but look! Look at you three! Look at all of you!"
She gestured to Steve, Bucky, Sam, Clint, and Wanda. All of the superheroes that had been on the 'wrong' side of history. "You're all standing here. You're all fine. You all get to be with your soulmate! But you shouldn't be! You should be on the run just like my mother!"
"But that didn't happen until we were at least eight." You protested. "I was eight anyways. Sharon was never in your life. I don't understand-"
"Just because my parents weren't in my life didn't mean that I didn't miss them."
"But Sharon wasn't HYDRA." You protested again. You might not have ever liked Sharon- she had been a complete bitch to you when you'd met her- you knew she wasn't HYDRA at least. "Besides, I thought she was pardoned. She literally worked at Tony's Tower. She was there when I met T'Challa for the first time!"
Melody was fuming. "Yes. I know she was. But when Fury found out-"
"I didn't put them on Sharon's tail Melody." Fury said, crossing his arms over his chest. "In fact, I was quite adamant that there was no reason she should be on the run. We're still pleading her case to this day. And she's not the only Agent."
"I don't even know how Sharon and Rumlow are soulmates." Steve said, blushing slightly. "I wasn't under the impression that Rumlow even had a soulmate."
"They were, but they kept it hidden." Melody mumbled. "Especially after she found out he was HYDRA."
"Wait, Sharon knew?" Coulson asked.
Melody cursed under her breath. "I just. . ." She looked at you with pleading eyes. You just sat there.
You were so taken aback by everything. All of it. Like. . . it had been years since the bonding ceremony. And she had tried killing you so many times. And Elizabeth had been your sister and you never got to realize that. . .
There was a sudden burning in your chest, longing for Elizabeth and Rhodey. You missed both of them so much and this girl. . . this woman sitting in front of you was the reason that they were dead.
Pietro seemed to be thinking along the same lines, because suddenly, Melody was pinned against the wall, his hand tight around her throat. "You got my soulmate killed!" He yelled, his accent oozing thickly through his pain. He blinked tears away. "You got Elizabeth killed!"
Her face was turning red, but no one made a move to stop him, not even Ben. He was still trying to process everything.
"Pietro, you have to let her go." Coulson finally said. "You can't kill her. We have to take her in."
Pietro practically threw her to the ground in the middle of the living room, his eyes glazed over with tears.
She didn't do anything, just getting to her feet with a resigned look on her face. You knew the only reason she was complying was because of Little Mel in Ben's arms. She was doing this for her child. You would have done the same.
"For what it's worth," She said softly and you looked up at her, realizing that she was addressing you. "I am sorry about Rhodey. I always liked him. He was a sensible guy. I never meant for anyone to actually get killed in that attack. I really am sorry."
