My alarm went off, waking me up out of a rather lovely dream. I fumbled for my phone and turned off my alarm. I wanted to give myself exactly enough time to get ready, meaning that I set it to 7:30. I got out of bed and went out into the empty dorm. My roommates wouldn't get back for another day or two, so it was just me. I went and got myself some coffee, and I stood where I was standing when Alex and I had that moment. I paused as I recalled that for the thousandth time since it happened.

A guy who didn't have feelings for a girl would've just backed up instantly. He didn't. He just stared at my face. And what he said yesterday...

"Stop," I ordered myself as I sipped some black coffee that zinged me. "Don't try to convince yourself he likes you if he really doesn't and was just being nice. But what Lee said..."

I shook my head, pushing the thoughts away. I had to go and get ready.

Once ready, and my hair was down and wavy like last night, I made it to the class building. As I was heading to the classroom, Alex was coming up to it at the same time. I got out my phone and pretended to look at something on it, and I noticed Alex in the corner of my vision stop and look over at me before he entered the classroom. He was there for a couple seconds and went on in.

He stood there staring at me. What did that mean?!

I came to the classroom and went on in and found that everyone was there. Well, it was eight on the dot. I was the last in.

"Okay, let's get started since everyone is here," Alex announced as I begrudgingly sat next to Min Ho since Q and Florian were sitting next to each other at the same table, and I didn't want to sit next to Pierre or on my own. "Now, you all know why you're here, and I hope that you all will have learned your lesson by detention's end at noon."

"A four-hour detention for a couple of drunk guys?" Pierre complained.

"Be lucky you have me instead of Professor Lee. If he was here, you would stay for eight like what happened last year. Now, phones up on the front desk. Quickly now."

He was sure in teacher mode right now, not friend mode. I went up with everyone as they deposited their phones. As I was there, I said, "I'm sorry your Chuseok holiday was ruined because of us."

"I'm just doing my duty as your teacher. Now, take your seat, Miss Fletcher."

Miss Fletcher, huh? Well, then. I left the front desk and sat next to Min Ho again, my heart sinking. He leaned over and whispered, "That was cold."

"Shut up. It's your fault that I'm here."

"Why is it my fault? I wanted to stop Pierre."

"But you asked me to not say anything and play actress."

"Hey, you could've said no, but you didn't. It's not my fault that you couldn't resist saying no to me."

"Psht, don't be full of yourself," I scoffed, and Alex cleared his throat to get us to stop talking.

"Now, this is going to be a study hall, essentially," he said. "There will be no talking, just working, understood? It will give you all time to think about what you did yesterday."

"You're not being fair, Professor Finnerty," complained Pierre. "It was me who was going to spike the Milkis. They were trying to stop me."

"Yes, and they could have said something but didn't," Alex retorted with a glance at me, and that stung my heart. "Now, all of you get out your homework and start working. If you have any questions, raise your hand. There will be a small ten-minute break at ten o'clock."

He sat down at Professor Lee's desk and got out what looked like a lesson plan. The rest of us got to work as well, and I tried to concentrate on a poem I had to write for Professor Lee's class, but I was too busy trying not to cry. Pierre was right—Alex wasn't being fair. He was actually being kind of mean. Even during our class, he was always happy and not so strict.
