Dear Hannah,

I survived my first week of senior year. Just about thirty-five more to go. And, thankfully, Alex reassigned me a different chemistry partner. My roommate Becca volunteered, actually, to be my new one, and Min Ho took hers, which was a guy who likes to have a red bearded dragon sit on his shoulder. Odd, I know. But to each his own. None of us minded the switch-a-roo. Plus, I need Becca to keep me in check so I'm not so focused on the teacher and pay attention to the subject matter... I'm seriously screwed. Anyway, more later.

Sincerely, Addison.

I put my phone away after typing that message. Apparently, my attempt at paying attention hadn't been going to well. I received a D on our previous lab.

The bell rang for class to end, and I got my things together. As Becca and I were heading to the door, Min Ho passed us and bumped my arm without even looking at me and headed out.

"Seriously!" I gasped. "He's horrible."

"Or he's flirting," Becca said, and I looked at her with wide eyes.

"Becca, that isn't it! Let's just get to lunch."

We about left when Alex stopped us. "Sorry, Addison, but could I have a small word before you head off to lunch?"

"I'll meet you in the cafeteria," Becca said then left. I went up to the front desk that Alex was standing behind. He seriously looked amazing in his blue dress shirt. So simple, but it was attractive.

"Yes, Alex?" I asked.

"I want to talk to you about that lab I handed back to you all today," he said, and I grimaced.

"Okay, okay, go ahead and say it. I need a tutor."

"That is exactly what I was going to mention. How did you know?"

Because I was expecting to have one since I'm so in love with you and can't think straight normally, let alone in your class! "I guess just a feeling. I'm sorry. Science classes have never been my strong suit. I salute you for being willing to teach it."

He smirked cutely. "Well, I've always been interested in science, and I was always teaching people things growing up, so my mum said to put both of them together and be a teacher. Low and behold, here I am."

His family. I wanted to know more about them. "You talk a lot with your family back in Australia?"

"Pretty often, yes. It's hard being away from them since we're pretty close, but we manage."

"I feel that. I miss my parents and sister. I message them all the time. And... sorry, but I sent my sister a message during your class."

He gave me that "teacher" look. "I would recommend you not doing that so you can pay attention a little better."

He was the one who made it so I couldn't pay attention! "Yes, I'm sorry. You know teenagers—surgically attached to their phones."

"Indeed. Well, anyway, I contacted the tutoring office, and they have just the tutor for you. After school, you can go and meet him, that is, if you want the tutor. It's completely up to you. I don't want to push you to do something you don't want to do."

I shook my head. "No, no, I think it will be good for me. Honestly, I don't get those equations. Why does chemistry have to involve math? I'm already taking calculus. I don't need any more math in my life at the moment."

He laughed. "It gets easier once you practice. There's a pattern... as I have said in class."

And I didn't hear it. "Okay. Thank you, Alex."
