11 Moons Left

ADALIND

Days turn into nights, and nights seem to fade in and out of our lives. The Land of Demise has closed all borders as their territory seems to be deteriorating and the cause remains unknown. We travel between House Nyght and House Dae, caring and providing whatever leadership we can.

The world seems to precariously hang on the edge of ruin, and yet...I am happy. My House is completely unaffected by the changes that occur outside of our borders.

I sit with my mate at the table for breakfast. His hand remains on my thigh as he reads the latest newspaper of our House. He has taken a particular interest in House Nyght and travels most frequently there. If not to see his dragon, Sepehr, than to relish in the darkness of the kingdom.

Daario stumbles in, buckling his belt, a sly grin on his face. "Apologies, I was riding."

Goliath glances up and cocks his head to the side as he flicks the paper in his hands. "Oh, really? Who?"

Lucian chuckles. Lux even gives a grin.

"Your mother," Daario responds. "I wanted to ask Adalind if she would like a ride lat-"

Black engulfs Daario and when it dissipates, he's on his knees, holding himself between his legs. Lucian's laugh echoes through the dining hall.

"Everyone is playing a game of volleyball at first noon," Lux says. "They would like it if we joined them."

I smile as Daario painfully climbs this chair and throws himself in it. "I always love kicking Lucian's ass."

I want them to play. I want them to have fun. I want to play too, but I feel so guilty enjoying myself while others seem to be falling victim to the world's turmoil.

"We will eat and then go."

I nod at Lux. I can feel Goliath's hand squeeze my thigh and I look at him. I can't hep the way my heart flutters in my chest as I stare into those silver eyes. Silver eyes that look at me like I am the very essence of his being.

"I would like to go to House Nyght to see Sepehr. Would that be alright?"

Of course. Why would it not be? I know he feels the same deep connection  I feel for Asha. I know that without being close to his dragon he's restless. I know he loves me and loves being here, but he also loves being there. He loves the night. It called to him. He didn't hide in the shadows. He was the shadows.

The only place shadows lurked within House Dae was in my bed.

"Of course, my Horizon. Be safe."

"Always, Daylight." He leans toward me and kisses the crown of my head. The sound of gagging parts us.

"Sorry," Daario says stopping his fake gagging. "I am not used to happiness. It's nauseating."

He looks so princely as he sits next to me. He speaks with Lux and throws his head back at what she says. I love it. My heart fills with such joy that my people, my family, have bonded with one another.

"He didn't dump me because I was an ass," Lux says, her floaty voice taking me away from my thoughts. "He dumped me because I was fucking his sister."

The table erupts into laughter again.

"Speaking of fucking, Lucian needs to get laid." Daario leans back his hands going behind his head as he lounges. "He's begun to lose vision in his left ear."

"Ha. Ha," Lucian replies, rolling his eyes.

Goliath's laugh was so beautiful. His smile was radiant. He had rarely smiled before but now it seemed like an everyday occurrence and it was because of me...I made him happy. That made me brighten - literally.
