Losing to You

Sky was in a panic. He had been organised and up to date until one of his professors gave them a last-minute assignment due tomorrow. There was no way he was going to finish it in time. He called Rena.

"Hi, Sky. What's up?"

"Hello, Rena. Are you busy?"

"Urgh, someone spilt water over my work today, so I've got to redo it and it's due tomorrow!"

"That sucks."

"Tell me about it. Did you need something?"

"No, no. I'll let you get back to work. See you tomorrow?"

"Lunch?"

"Okay."

"See you tomorrow. Bye!"

"Bye!"

Sky hung up the phone and put his head in his hands. Everyone was busy with their own work; he couldn't ask them to help him with his. At this moment he was thinking how lucky Rain was to have P'Phayu to help him.

I could ask P'Prapai.

The thought had barely crossed his mind before Sky had already pressed the call button next to the racer's name.

"P'Pai, I need your help. Can you come over?"

"I'm on my way."

The racer hung up and Sky looked down at his phone confused. He hadn't even said what he needed help with. Surely Prapai wouldn't just drop everything and come racing over just because Sky said he needed help. Yet, that must have been exactly what he did because there was no other way Prapai would've gotten to Sky's apartment so quickly.

They worked together on Sky's assignment until late into the night. Prapai fell asleep on Sky's bed while the student finished it off. The racer dropped him off at university in the morning, which was a little tricky since in his haste to get to Sky the evening before he had taken his motorcycle instead of his car. However, Sky and the model for his assignment both arrived safely, just as Prapai promised.

The racer helped Sky get off his bike before taking his helmet off.

"Be careful on your way in. Don't go and drop all my hard work."

"Your hard work?"

"Our hard work."

Our. Sky liked the sound of that.

"Thank you, P'Pai, for your help."

"I told you. I'll always come to your rescue."

Prapai was grinning as he said it, but Sky knew that he was being sincere. Balancing his model on the bike so that he had one hand free, Sky reached out cup the side of Prapai's face as he leaned in. The kiss was short and sweet. Prapai was still in shock when Sky pulled away and the student took the opportunity to run away. The racer watched him with a dopey grin.

At lunchtime, Sky and Rena sat together in the cafeteria.

"I saw you this morning... with P'Prapai."

Sky's hand, which was holding a spoonful of rice, paused. He prayed that she hadn't seen his out-of-character display of affection with the racer.

"He gave me a ride."

"He doesn't usually pick you up on his motorcycle."

"He didn't pick me up."

Sky muttered it under his breath hoping that Rena wouldn't hear him.

"He didn't pick you up, but then how... oh, he spent the night."

"He helped me with my assignment. We got a last-minute one yesterday and it was due this morning, so I was freaking out -"

"That's why you called. I'm sorry, Sky."

"Don't be silly. You can't apologise for having your own work to do."

"So, things are going well? Between you and P'Prapai?"

They were interrupted by Rain joining them.

"Urgh, if I didn't have P'Phayu there is no way I would've finished that assignment last night. P'Phayu is so smart and cool and handsome. I'm so lucky. There's no one like him. He's the best -"

"P'Phayu isn't the only one who's those things."

Rain and Rena stared at their friend in shock. Across from him, Rena saw Sky's eyes widen as he realised what he had done. Rain jumped at the chance to interrogate him.

"Who are you talking about? Are you seeing someone? Is it P'Prapai? You think he's handsome?"

Rain continued to question Sky without waiting for an answer - not that Sky was going to give him any. Rena looked down at her plate as she processed everything she had learnt today. There was no doubt that Sky had feelings for Prapai, the question now was what Rena was going to do about hers.
