The next time Rena saw Sky, he was in a bad mood.
"Hey. Bad day?"
"I don't want to talk about it. Do you have a lot of work to do, or can you help me with something?"
"Give me say an hour just to finish something off and then I can help you."
"Of course. Thanks, Rena."
They worked with such focus that they lost track of time, only stopping to eat something thanks to Rena. She was packing up her stuff and Sky was frowning at his phone.
"It's late. Stay the night."
"Are you sure?"
"I don't want you travelling home this late alone. If you're uncomfortable then I'll sleep on the sofa."
"Don't be silly. It's fine. We can share the bed like last time. Can I borrow something to sleep in?"
"Of course."
Sky gives her some of his clothes and lets her use the bathroom first. When they're both in bed they fall asleep instantly.
Something wakes Rena up. It takes her a moment to realise that it's Sky. He seems to be having a nightmare. The look of fear on his face worries her. She can't imagine what he must be dreaming about to react this way.
"No. Stop. Leave me alone."
Rena goes cold as she hears what Sky is murmuring. A thought occurs to her and she hopes with everything she has that she is wrong.
Sky wakes up with a start and seeing him so panicked makes Rena want to cry.
"It's okay, Sky. You're safe now. It was just a nightmare. You're okay."
"Rena?"
"Yes, I'm here."
"Sorry, did I wake you up?"
"Don't worry about me. Are you okay? That looked pretty bad."
"Hm."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Sky shook his head.
"It might help. Does it have something to do with why you were upset earlier?
Sky took a deep breath before glancing at Rena.
"Rain asked me today if I wasn't giving P'Prapai a chance because I was still in love with my ex. I got angry at him because although he doesn't know the details, he knows that my ex wasn't a good person. Rain knows that my ex hurt me."
Rena reached out slowly and took Sky's hands in hers when he doesn't stop her.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that. Your ex is the reason you believe all guys are arseholes?"
"Yes. He - he -"
"It's okay if you can't talk about it."
Sky nodded, squeezing Rena's hands in thanks.
"It was bad. He was nice at first and then things changed, but I was already in love with him. Love makes you blind."
"But you got out."
Sky shook his head.
"He got bored with me."
His voice was shaking as he held back tears.
Rena let go of his hands and wrapped her arms around Sky in a hug. She tightened her grip when the sobs started.
"P'Prapai's nice to me now, but what happens when he gets bored with me? I can't go through that again."
"Not everyone is like your ex. You shouldn't let one arsehole stop you from experiencing love. Do you like P'Prapai?"
"I don't like him. I don't want to like him. I wish he'd stop. He's been sending me messages every day, wishing me good morning and good night, asking how my day was, and if I've eaten. He promised not to send flowers again, but every day I come home to food hanging on my door. I can't fall in love again. My heart won't be able to take it."
Rena held Sky until he fell asleep, her heartbreaking after what he had told her. She swore then and there that she would protect him.
