It would have been all too easy for Rena to melt into Sky's kiss. This is what she had dreamed about for weeks. But Sky was Prapai's. Even if the two were currently having a misunderstanding, Rena was confident that they would easily be able to sort things out.
That was the reason why she forced herself to pull away.
"I think we should go to sleep."
"Rena..."
"Please. Can we not talk about it tonight?"
"Okay. Sleep well."
She didn't sleep well and neither did Sky as they both mulled over what had just occurred.
When Rena woke up the next morning, she went into the kitchen to find Sky cooking her breakfast.
"You're still here."
"Can we talk now? About last night?"
"You were upset Sky, otherwise you wouldn't have done that."
"That's not true! I like you -"
"Don't! Don't say that if you don't mean it."
"But I -"
"I didn't tell you about my feelings so that you could use them to make yourself feel better."
"What? No! You think I would do that?"
"Why else would you kiss me?"
"I told you. I li-"
"You're gay, Sky! Are you forgetting that I'm a girl?"
"I never said I was gay."
"Huh?"
Rena gaped at him.
"I may have a preference for boys but that doesn't mean I've ruled out girls entirely. You're you. Your gender doesn't matter."
"What are you saying?"
"That I mean it when I say I like you. I admit I was a bit confused at first. I've never liked a girl before."
"But you like me? When did you-? How?"
"I enjoyed spending time with you ever since you drew in the park and then you took me to the races, and you looked... So beautiful. You said all these kind things to me and then I couldn't stop thinking about how cute you were. But then you kept pushing me towards P'Pai and it confused me because I saw-"
"What did you see?"
"I saw your sketchbook. It was full of drawings of me."
"Oh."
"They say a great artist can make you feel their emotions through their work."
"I'm not a great artist."
"I disagree."
"Sky..."
"Rena, when you confessed to me, I needed time to think not because I felt betrayed, but because I already knew that I liked you too. I just didn't know what to do and, in the end, I decided to talk to P'Prapai first."
"P'Prapai came first. Sky, I don't want to be your second choice. You're here because he upset you, not because you want me more than you want him."
"That's not entirely untrue, but -"
"Talk to P'Pai. Talk to him first and then come to me. If you still feel the same way."
"Rena?"
"Go, Sky. Please."
"Okay, but I'll be back."
Sky didn't like leaving Rena, but this wasn't going to be solved today. Emotions were too high.
He hadn't planned on seeing Prapai, or even speaking to him, anytime soon, but with the recent development, Sky knew that he had to sooner rather than later. He couldn't have Rena going around thinking that at best she was a second choice or at worst that he was playing with her feelings. First, he would talk to Prapai and then he would tell Rena everything.
