The Moon Child

The legend

Long ago, when the earth was still young the celestials spirits were free to roam the face of earth tending and nurturing it. Mankind was still a distant future. The earth was a paradise, full of food and resources waiting to be tapped. It was the bird and animal spirits who were the 1st to make this new world their home. And with time they evolved, bred and flourished under the care of the gods above.

Selene was the youngest child of the Sun God and also his favorite. She was the purest of heart, gentle and ever cheerful child. Her presence brightened the heavens. While Selen was born of light, her elder sister Norris was born of darkness. Norris despised the day Selene was born. She hated her sister with so much passion that it gave her a unique pleasure in hurting her. Norris never wasted a chance to prove lil Selene wrong or to snatch away everything dear to her. But strangely nothing could shatter the bright eyed young goddess spirits.

The king of the heavens knew of his daughters' fights and disputes but as a father he could never take sides and thought a little sibling rivalry was healthy and acceptable. But little did he know how deep the seed of discord was sown in elder daughter's mind. As the all father he was the creator of worlds and his many children were assigned to care for it. When Norris came of age, he gave her the responsibility of the care of Ether a world similar to earth but born of the negative energy and toxins formed at the time of making of earth. This world had to be maintained well as the existence of earth is impossible with out it because every thing is created with an equal and opposite. Though it was the control of earth that she coveted, Norris was happy in being given this immense responsibility by her father.

For long she ruled with full power over her domain, she created creatures from darkness for serving her. But when her father decided that selene was to care for earth when she came of age, her anger knew no bounds. She was infuriated by her fathers actions. She swore to make sure that when the time was right she would take away everything dear to her sister and bring discord and ruin upon earth.

As many eons passed Selene was still able to care for her world even with occasional troubles from her sister. Even though creatures of darkness were sent to earth by Norris, Selene's goodness prevailed and earth became home and refuge for those creatures. One such race to make earth their new home and change their loyalty to Selene were the lycans. A strange race to walk on the face of earth on two legs and roam about in their true forms a abominable wolves at will. Though these strange and unruly creatures were wild and troublesome Selene took an interest in them. She realized that they were more manageable when in their two legged form. Gradually she was able to make peace with them and in time helped them evolve into a better race. She gave them the gift of language, ariculture, and family. She helped them set rules and lay down the foundation of a society. And soon they learnt to keep their wolf spirits under complete control. Selene's involvement with the lycans brought her close to a young alpha male. They fell in love against all odds. It took time but she convinced her father to agree and bless the marriage. But little did she know of her sister plotting her revenge.

Though it took time to set her plan into motion Norris did not regret her decision. Selene being the child of light had to return to the heavens at night. So every night she would leave her husband to return the next day. Norris who noticed this decided to plot her plan accordingly as she could visit at night couse of being born of darkness. One night she visited Selene's husband when she had left for heaven and seduced him into spending the whole night with her. The next day when Selene returned to rush to her dear husband, she was shocked to see him bed her sister. She was so filled with rage and betrayal that she cursed the lycans with a mate bond. The bond made the lycans have a single mate without whom they would never be complete and their loss would drive them to madness and sorrowful state. Norris thought she had finally broken her sister but little did she know that a woman stolen of her love is not the one to back down. Selene asked her father to imprison Norris for breaking the sacred law and staying on earth even after sunrise, betraying Selene and for all the other crimes she had done so far. Seeing reason in his daughters words the sun god asked his eldest son, the keeper of time Chronos to lock Norris away in her Ether world in a time loop. Selene then decided that there shall never be true darkness on earth and became the moon to shine during the night and since then came to be worshiped as the moon goddess.
