The Moon Child

Chapter 7

Po' PoV:

       Did I just hear them right? Did they just tell me that they wanted me to join their pack? Oh it can't be. Why would they want someone like me in the pack. But more importantly do I want be in the pack? While all these thoughts play around violently in my mind, I hear someone calling out my name. I quickly snap back into reality. "Mr Olivers, are you still with us?" The alpha asked me. I notice the slight irritation in his voice," ummm sorry sir...you see the truth is, I'm not sure if I want be in a pack. It's been ten years since I ever lived a pack life. I have got used to being a nomad." I look up at everyone in the room. There seems to be some kind of a tension building up in here. After a few more minutes of silence, one of the elders decide to speak up,"Mr Peter Olivers I suggest you put some thought into the matter. You have proved yourself to be adept with weapons and the fact that you are the child of a legend is clearly impressive. But these lands are all pack lands. A lone wolf is a rogue in these parts and not all packs will be as accepting as us. The main reason we put this offer out is because the alpha and beta feel indebted to you for saving the Beta's life. So we implore you to consider. I'm sure the alpha will be kind enough to give you till afternoon to give him an answer."

           I have been pacing about in the room for over an hour now. I still can't make up my mind. Do I really want to be in a pack? Shiera has been over the moon happy about the idea of a pack life and is just going on pleading in my head. God she is giving me a headache. I need to get out and get some fresh air. I put on my jacket and walk out of the room. As I walk down the stairs and cross the corridors, I feel that I'm being watched. I guess that's the pack guards keeping an eye on me. Can't blame them, I'm a rogue to them. Once I am outside I walk towards the small pond with a little fancy bridge across it. I sit down on the bridge with my feet dangling off the side and my hands resting on the side rails. It's so peaceful here. Deep down I know I would want to settle down in a pack. But then how long can I go on living a lie. And how can I be sure that they will be accepting if they know that I have been so full of deceptions. Shiera just keeps bombarding my head with pleas and whining on how she wants to stay. I sit there lost in thought.

           "That's my spot you know." A playful voice jolts me back to reality. I turn around and find Penny standing there with her arms crossed and her foot taping trying to look as angry as possible. But her eyes twinkle with laughter. I give her a sly smirk and let out a small chuckle. "Hello Penny." I retort back uninterested. She walks over and plops down beside me. "So Mr eyecandy, why the long face?" She looks at me with those sea blue eyes twinkling with curiosity. I smile at her. She has no glasses on this time. "I like you better without those glasses on." I pay her a compliment. She smiles at me and holds out a bar of chocolate. "Thanks. Im wearing contacts now. The truth is I'm kind of blind without my glasses. I had an accident. My wolf could only heal me so much. But the pack healer says when I'm fully mated, the mate bond will heal me completely. Anyway you didn't tell me why you look so messed up." She looks up at me expectantly. I sigh loudly and take a bite of the chocolate she had given me. "They want me to join the pack." I whisper. "Whaaaaaaat!!! That's great news!!!" She literally screams in my ears. "Oh good goddess girl. You nearly burst my drums." I complain sulking again. "I'm sorry...really sorry. But Po this is good news. Why are you so grumpy about it." I get up as my legs were kind of going numb. I shake my leg awake. "It's been 10 years Penny. 10 years since I lived in a pack. I don't know if I would ever fit in." She walks up to me and takes my hand in hers. "Know what Po, I'm gonna take you around and show you the rest of the pack. After that I'm sure you will want stay. Trust me. I was scared too. I initially belonged in the neighboring pack. But when my parents died in an accident, my dad's best friend whom I call 'uncle Greg' brought me here. And everyone was just nice enough to accept me. So come on just give this pack a shot." She pulled me along and I could not help but smile.

            "So like I was saying Po that's the pack house. The Alpha, Beta, Omega families and few other pack members live there. That is those who are higher up in the army and administrative department. And I live there too cause uncle Greg is the Omega of this pack. It also has the guest house, recreation rooms, part hall and lots of other features." She says as we cross the pack house. I was a bit shocked to learn that Penny is kind of related to that grouch of an Omega. She has been going on explaining the different things we have crossed so far. As far as I could grasp, I know that there is a pack village with individual housing facilities, a supply store and a day care and many of the pack members work in the nearby human settlements. Penny suddenly stops in front of huge building. I see many guys who look like they have been dosed up with steroids walking in and out of it. "This" she says moving her hands around to emphasise, " is the gym and training centre. This is where all the guys go to get buffed up and train to become warriors. Every guy from the age of 12 is to join in here for training. And there's a strict no females policy." She completes scrunching up her nose in disgust. I'm shocked to hear the gender bias. "You are kidding me right?" I ask her while trying to spot at least one female among the people going in and out. She shakes her head and pouts a nope. Just then a guy about my height, black curly hair and a diamond stud on his right ear lobe walks up to us. His tight t- shirt hugs his body leaving nothing to ones imagination. He snakes his hands around Penny's waist and lifts her up and twirls her around with her shirking aloud. He then puts her down and laughs out loud. She glares at him and the punches him playfully. I clear my throat to get their attention. He wraps his hands around her and rests his chin lazily on top of her head and eyes me curiously. Penny blushes up like a tomato, "Po this is my friend..." and she's interrupted by him. "Boyfriend....I'm her boyfriend Chris Saunders... The Omega to be." he says trying to intimidate me. So she's dating the Omega's son. I smirk at her and decide to tease her a little. "And I thought I could ask you out for a date." Chris lets out a low growl and pulls her closer to him causing Penny to blush even more. I laugh out loud, " Relax man. I was just kidding. Penny was just showing me around. And I'm not really into breaking up mates." Chris relaxes a bit and grins sheepishly while Penny releases herself from his grip. "We are not mates. Or at least we don't know yet. We both are 17 and you don't find your mate until you are eighteen." Penny looks down as though her feet are the most interesting thing at the moment. Chris frowns again and pulls her back to himself and whispers in her ears on how he believes that she is his mate. I'm suddenly reminded of Peter and I. How we too knew that we were meant to be with each other. I feel the need to console them. "I'm sure you two are meant to be with each other. The pull will always be there even though you might not realize it. Trust me I know." My eyes moisten up a little bit, and so I turn around to avoid them seeing me this vulnerable. Suddenly I feel a warm hand on my shoulder. It's Penny, " I'm sorry for your loss Po." She gives me a weak smile. I smile back. Then suddenly Chris jumps in and squeezes himself between us and rests his hands on both our shoulders. "I'm starving. Let's eat. And both you grannies may join me. You see cause I'm a kind heart." He says wriggling his eye brows at us. We let out a laugh and head towards the common dining room. As we walk towards it, I mind link Shiera and let her know, so far so good.

This is more like a filler. I just wanted to introduce the setting of d story and slowly introduce some of the main characters. I know its boring. Pls bear with me. Pls give suggestions and comments on how its going so far.
