Kaliga's PoV:
Oh good goddess!! I have never felt this nervous in years. The last time I felt like this was the day when I was chosen as the next moon priestess three decades ago. I was eighteen then and like every eighteen year old I too was full of childish dreams and naivety of a hot blooded youth that I was. For centuries wolves from our clan have been chosen as the bridge between this world and the spirit world. We are the descendants of Hati Hródvitnisson, the Warg who was the wolf spirit who pulls the goddesses chariot across the sky. Legend has it that Hati and his brother Sköll who serves the Sun god can never rest unless it's the eclipse. Hati rests during the lunar eclipse and Sköll during the solar. And so, once many ages ago during a lunar eclipse, Hati was said to have visited earth and mated with a she wolf, unable to resist her heat. Since wargs are lone wolves by nature, he returned back to the sky when the eclipse ended with little or no remorse. The unmated she- wolf who was impregnated by the Warg with five offsprings was shunned upon by her pack and disowned. So she called out to the moon goddess, crying her a river of tears asking for help. Taking pity on the plight of the young wolf, the goddess appeared before her with Hati. Though Hati owned up to his crime and permitted her children to have his name and be known as" Decata na Hati" or the children of Hati, he could not stay down on earth and be the mate she wanted him to be. He was a lone wolf and could never be tied down. The goddess blessed the she-wolf with the gift of future sight and healing so that she would be able to raise the children alone. She was also promised never to know pain again and her children chosen to be the link between the two worlds. To prevent such instances from repeating the goddess blessed that all she- wolves can only be impregnated by the mate and none other. Also, the moon goddess created an island called Ga-loona and sent the she wolf there. Since that day forth Ga-loona has been the home of the priestesses.
There are five packs belonging to each of the five children of Hati under the Warg clang. Just because we are descendants of the Wargs, it doesn't mean all of us are lone wolves and mateless. Only selected few females who have more Warg blood in them are the ones chosen by the goddesses to be her priestess. Each priestess who has completed her training will be assigned to a particular pack where she will act as the spiritual guide. When I developed the sacred mark of Hati on my forehead on my eighteenth birthday, I was miserable. I had hoped for a life with a mate and children. But that was a long time ago and now I can't imagine a life any different from what I lead now. After five years of training I was sent to this pack as the new priestess after the passing away of the previous one. Goddess bless her soul. It's been twenty five years since I have been a part of this pack. Alpha Whilliams is a good man and an efficient leader. And never has he given me a reason to regret being a part of this pack, nor have I. It has always been the duty of the pack priestess to conduct the acceptance ceremony when a new member is to be included into the pack. Over the years I have performed many such ceremonies, but never before have I had butterflies in my stomach. For the past few days I have been having strange visions. I keep seeing the insignia of the royal family, the goddess and then darkness...lots of darkness and somehow it seems to be alive. I can't see it, but I sense the presence of great evil in all my visions. My wolf Una has been awfully quiet since the last few days. And the goddess just isn't of any help either. The clock chimes twelve times indicating its midnight and time to start the ceremony. I had requested the alpha to inform the newcomer of our acceptance ritual and with the faith that all that will be met I start lighting the candles and incense sticks which were set up for the ceremony. I place the sacred moonstone which represents the goddess in the centre of the pentagram carved on the temple alter. Then each of the four elements on each arm of the pentagram. A bowl of blood from the Alpha and Luna of the pack on the fifth arm. Once the alter is set up, I retrieve the silver dagger which is a vital part of the ceremony and place it carefully near the bowl of blood and wait for the newcomer. Soon enough I hear the crunching of gravel as he steps into the temple. I hear hesitation in his steps and so I call out," Come on in child... Don't worry I don't bite." I add for a little banter. " you are not as funny as you think, you know" Una retorts in my head. Great!!, her highness Una is finally out of her hibernation.
