We come to a stop at the beginning of a long bridge.
I cringe at the sight of it, "Anyone know when the next train it due?"
Teddy snorts, "It won't take that long to cross. Let's just go,"
I pull him by his arm back and give him a look that only a mother would give you, "Teddy, we're not crossing that bridge. What if a train comes? What do we do?"
He snorts loud again, "We just jump!"
Chris peers over the edge, looking down at the water "We can jump, Teddy, that's at least 100ft."
I sigh while trying to think of alternative plans, but Chris beats me to it.
"We can go down the root 136 bridge, the one by Shiloh church." He suggests while looking at me.
Teddy looks dumbfounded by this suggestion, "What are you crazy? That could take till dark! We cross here and we get to the same place in 10 minutes."
Vern looks like he's about to shit himself at the thought of crossing the bridge, "But, Teddy, it won't take THAT long..."Teddy rolls his eyes and walks to the start of the bridge, "Whatever, I'm crossing here. And while you guys are dragging your candy asses half way across the state and back, I'll be waiting for you on the other side, relaxing with my thoughts."
I snort, "Do ya use your left hand or right hand for that?"
Teddy starts walking then snaps his head back to me, "Youuuuu wish."
The gang bust out with laughter as we start walking, despite Vern's protest.
I somehow got caught next to Gordie and Behind Vern who was walking on all fours. Teddy and Chris were half way across the bridge already and we had hardly made it 20 feet.
Gordie and I laugh as Vern falls flat on his stomach, "I lost the comb."
I shake my head, "Just forget it, Vern."
Gordie crouches down and grasps the tracks, feeling for vibrations. He was down there a bit longer than he usually is when I decided to ask him,
"Feel anything, Gordo?"
He snaps his head up, then turns to me, all the color drained from his face.
"TRAINNNNNNNN!"
