Chapter 17

We stand before a giant, roaring river.

"Gentlemen.... And lady-", Chris leans over and winks, "I present to you... the royal!"

The water was gushing and looked refreshing. I was contemplating jumping in to be honest.

I turned my attention to the rest of the tracks while the boys were fighting over something,

"Holy shit, the tracks go way out.", Chris had joined me on the tracks, breathing heavily from his riveting match of what the fuck ever they were doing.

He looks around for a second before responding, "If we cut across this field here I bet we'll be there in an hour.", the others had joined us at this point.

The field was overgrown, but seemed better than the tracks.

I shrug, "Seems better than the tracks.", I start walking towards the field. I don't hear any noises so I turn around,

"You slow asses coming? Or are you gonna stand there cookin' in the sun all day?", they all smirk at each other and follow after me, with Teddy yelling,

"Take no prisonerssss!"

Vern stays on the tracks protesting, "But, guys! You don't know what's in those woods! It could be dangerous!... guys?... Aw shit-"

"I hate this short cut."

We tracked through the field, entering a more wooded, and wetter, area.

"I hAtE tHiS sHoRtCuT.", Teddy mocks Vern. I stifle a laughter but still get a blunt look from Vern.

We walk further into the woods and come to an abrupt stop when we're faced with a swamp,

"Ha! And howwwww do you expect we cross this?", Vern, the sassy king, looks around.

Teddy smirks, "We use you as a raft.", Vern rolls his eyes.

Chris reaches behind me and grabs a branch, he sticks it in the water and it only goes to 3 inches or so,

"Hey, guys, it's not that deep. We can just walk across.", he throws the stick to the side and we all step in.

We get about 3 steps in before the ground drops and the water comes over our heads.

We come up from the water, coughing and gaging. Vern huffs, "I told you this was a bad idea."

Teddy laughs, "Is it just me or are you the world's biggest pussy?"

Chris rolls his eyes, "Act your age, Teddy."

Teddy gasps, "This is my age! I'm at the prime of my! I'll be young once!", I could help but laugh and do what I always do,

Say something bitchy,

"Yeah, but you'll be dumb forever."

The guys start laughing and Teddy drops his jaw,

"That's it! You die, Collins!", before I can move, he dunks my head under water. I come up from the water screaming,

"GODAMNIT! STOP, TEDDY!", Teddy's cackling as he dunks me under again, "CHRIS! CHRIS!"

I swim as fast as I can over to Chris, and climb on his back, wrapping my legs around his torso.

Teddy stops and scrunches his nose, "So are you guys, like.... Fucking or something?"

We both stop.

"No, Teddy. I just didn't want to be dunked again."

Teddy makes an 'oh' expression.
