The bed was empty when she woke, but then again, it didn't come as too much of a shock, considering Lorenzo's fickle nature. She would be lying, however, if she had said it didn't disappoint her even a little. After all he had said last night when she was half-asleep, she would've liked to talk it out properly. Then again, perhaps she spoke too soon? A rustle coming from outside her room, elsewhere in the house, pulled her attention and nearly drew out a laugh. So he had stayed after all. Well, he was nothing if not full of surprises.

Taking a few moments to collect herself, Y/N peeled back the covers and set her feet on the floor with a sigh. Too much had happened all in one night, and yet, she was able to think straight about her decision of what to say to the unusual man who had invaded her formerly mundane life. Hoisting herself up, she followed the quiet sounds and grew curious from the scent of something cooking. To her shock, there, in her kitchen, Lorenzo stood by the stove, making breakfast. More than that, it looked as though he bathed again. It was enough to get her to smile both genuinely and teasingly.

"I didn't know you could cook," she chimed, causing his ear to twist in her direction as she sat at the table. A small huff fled from his nose in response.

"I was a servant, remember?" He spoke a bit bitterly, though for some reason, the topic wasn't as irritating this time. "The place had cooks, but I still got involved here and there to earn my keep." Noting his unpleasant tone, she let him leave it at that. Lorenzo gradually relaxed in the silence as he put together two plates of potato frittata. His tail twitched as he faced her, carrying the food to the table. "It's probably not great. I haven't done this in a while." Y/N waits for him to be seated before having a taste.

"Kinda overdone," she admits truthfully but devours another bite soon afterwards, unbothered. It was a nice gesture.

"Figures." He sighs. "I tried." Y/N smiles, her gaze lingering, which caused Lorenzo to glance up at her with annoyance, flicking his right ear as he brought the fork to his lips. "What?"

"Aren't you going to pop the question?" She teases. Making his eyes narrow.

     "I don't know what you're referring to."

"Oh, come on, don't be a sour puss. I know I didn't dream that shit. You were so cute cuddling up like that and pouring your heart out to me."

"Shut it!" He demands slamming his hands on the table and standing up dramatically, embarrassed. The woman giggled in amusement as his tail flicked.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. Please, keep eating." Again, the humanized feline huffed before begrudgingly sitting down in his seat again.

"Watch it." Seeing as he wouldn't further the topic himself, Y/N took charge so that he wouldn't be left waiting for an answer.

"I think I'll need a little more time before saying 'I love yous' and all that. I might be inclined for a date if you're willing, though."

"A date?" Lorenzo stopped eating and looked to her with surprise. The woman nods.

"Just a nice evening together. So long as you don't fuck it up, we can have another and another until eventually." Her fingers intertwine.

"Don't talk to me like I'm stupid enough not to know what a date is. I just don't even know where to begin with that shit, and trust me, cats aren't exactly the 'dating' role models I want to have." The man curled his lip in disgust, tail twitching again at the thought. Y/N didn't want to think too deeply on what he meant by that, as she had a good guess.

"You're telling me you can't think of one place to take me?"

"The dumpster behind some fancy restaurant?" He jokes, making her shake her head. "Face it, birdie, I'm not the type to take a girl on dates. That's just setting me up for failure."

"Then, what do you propose?" He frowns, tapping at the table in thought.

"I suppose... We can..." Coming up empty, he can't help but hum to declare his frustration. Y/N could tell he was genuinely trying to think of something, and so she spoke up with a plan.

"Tell you what," she starts, causing his pointed ears to perk and tune into her words, "clean yourself up a little more often and promise to keep yourself a little more open towards me, and I'll handle the date ideas. That sound good?" His hesitance is regarded with a kind and reassuring smile. Trusting didn't come easy for Lorenzo, and she understood that. It's why she couldn't agree to anything more than a few experimental dates. He might not yet be ready for such a commitment, and she didn't want him to rush into things, but if he was certain he felt this way, then she didn't see why she couldn't give him a chance.

"I'm not going to take advantage of you or your feelings. I genuinely just don't know how I feel yet, so I need more time. I think it'll be good for you to wait and figure this out more yourself too. Love isn't just something you jump into. It takes effort and you've got a lot of baggage to sort through involving humans. I just don't want you to make a decision like this without feeling wholly prepared for it."

     "Okay, I'll try."

"Good. And thank you for making this delicious meal. It is absolutely the best I've ever tasted."

"Just toss it my way if you don't like it. Picky ass bird." Y/N chuckles as she hands the plate off to him before standing up and walking behind the man to find something else to eat. At least, that's what he assumed she was doing. Smirking, she laid her hands on his shoulders, getting Lorenzo to stiffen up, but before he could get a word in, her lips met the space between his ears. Lorenzo jolted, nearly dropping his fork as his tail curled in response to the gentle kiss, a reaction that was hard not to laugh at as she removed her fingers from him.

"It's the thought that counts."

Awwww, aren't they just the cutest?

Anyway, thought I'd share my baby, Ambrosia, with the class. Also partial face reveal too, I guess. Don't mind the blurriness. My lens was dirty, and I didn't feel like taking another one. I don't show my face often, so be kind, please 🙏 I'm feeling brave today.

I just love her little mustache ❤️
