Stray cats have a tendency of following people around when they want something, so when a pretty bird named Y/N flies into Lorenzo's life, he can't help but jump at the chance to use her. What he doesn't realize is that she knows how to play his gam...

Unnoticeably, Lorenzo's lips shook as he gazed deeply into her eyes, having no clue what to do after she had leaned in towards him like that. What did she want? What did she expect him to do? Fuck, what was he doing for that matter by leaning in first?! Having felt they were in the position for a little too long, he shied away, moving his head back, causing a slight hint of disappointment to cross her face. That disappointment was soon forgotten once Lorenzo looked down as if he were trying to piece together his jumbled thoughts while one of his hands ran down the side of her head. The sharp fingers weaved into her hair as a serious voice came out from his lips.
"I could kill you if I wanted to," he claims, making her stomach flip anxiously. Was he upset? "It would be easy." Wearing a frown, he let out a trembling sigh before raising his head to look her in the eye. The expression in his was gentle, the complete opposite of his unnerving words. It helped her to relax. He was not angry at all. He was afraid. "So, I know I have nothing to fear if I'm hurt again, but..." Again, his breath hitched as tears welled up again in his eyes. He could say no more about it. Humans have played with his emotions nearly his entire life. He didn't want that pain again, making it so hard to trust her, though he wanted to.
He knew he was stronger now, but the pain of the past pinned him down, aways clawing at the back of his mind, dragging him back to that helpless state. He didn't need to finish his sentence for her to understand. He was able to tell that by the look on her face. Lorenzo sniffled and looked down again, feeling ashamed for not being as strong as he needed to be. "I really am broken, aren't I? As much as I try to deny it... I can't escape it." To Y/N's surprise, he laid his head back down on her shoulder, accepting anymore comfort she wished to give him. He would swallow his pride. He would trust her. He just needed her arms around him, and she gladly embraced him once again.
When she did, he closed his eyes and squeezed her back, nestling against her warm neck and taking deep breaths to calm himself as she rubbed along his spine in small circles. She wanted to give words to comfort him, but felt that the action was more than enough for him. If she said anything, he might get too embarrassed and leave. He likely would have too, so he appreciated the silence. When at last, he had stopped shaking and the tears had run dry, he found it in him to change the subject.
"Just now... Were you trying to kiss me?" A light giggle sounded against his shoulder as she picked up her head, making his ears perk on top of his head.
"I thought that's what you were trying to do." Lorenzo chuckled as well, feeling a bit warm in the chest as he smiled and curled his tail subconsciously.
"Stupid Birdie." Giving a huff, the woman rolled her eyes, tempted to even shake her head at the man.
"You're impossible."
"And you're as stubborn as a horse," he retorts.
"Make up your mind. Am I a bird or a horse?"
"Still mouthy, so a bird." Before she could say anything else, Lorenzo pulled back and covered her mouth, earning a small glare which quickly faded after seeing the slight smile on his face. He looked happy and more relieved of all the stress that had been weighing on his mind. Too focused on reading into the look, Y/N didn't immediately react when his hand was taken off her face or when his lips touched hers for no more than a single second, an affectionate peck as if to say, thank you for everything.
Her mouth gaped as he turned around and walked towards the door, leaving her dumbfounded in the middle of the room. "I'm gonna take a walk to clear my head. Leave the door unlocked, though, or at least, a window. I'll come back in later tonight." Y/N said nothing, all words falling short in her throat as the door shut before bringing her fingers to her mouth. Lorenzo chuckled and leaned against the front door, embraced by the cold air that rushed into his lungs and cooled his heated face.
As embarrassed as he was, he smiled and he couldn't stop smiling as he touched his lips before walking away, feeling almost eager to return.
