Potions Class
"It is not a surprise," Professor Slughorn began to ramble on. "That Mr. Mafloy and Miss Y/L/N have gotten top marks yet again! Congratulations on the perfect scores!"
I grinned hard as I held the test paper in my hands. Satisfaction filled me. This was routine, of course. Draco and I always competed for top results. Even though our houses are rivalry, this was the one thing that brought the two of us to peace. It would break the competition between us.
I glanced at Draco, and he met my gaze with pride. The then regular fixed schedule of the class continued with Slughorn instructing us to open our oversized textbooks.
At the end of this week, Slughorn announced another exam, making the class groan and complain. The professor scolded us for making a ruckus and addressed the topics that would be seen. I hurriedly jotted down every word escaping his mouth and onto my parchment.
Most nights after class were often the same. First, it was dinner, and then we would hang out with friends for a little bit before we all headed off to study. Hermione and I were keen on getting a perfect score on exams. We shared a room. That was perfect for both of us so we wouldn't have to disturb others by using the Common Room in the middle of the night.
The day of the exam came quicker than expected. I wished Draco luck as usual before I went to my seat. Draco wishes me back though today he was dead silent.
His body was seated straight, and his arms were loosely by his sides. His eyes were wide open, and dark circles ringed around them. He seemed to be staring at something fixedly without any movement. Professor Slughorn came around, passing the tests. He got startled once the test was laid in front of him. Draco took a deep breath and began to bite his feather once he read the test.
Confusion filled up in me as I kept my stare at Draco. Was he up all night studying? No? What could be bothering him?
"Y/N?" a voice called as many minutes passed by.
"Yes?" I answered, breaking my trance and trying to figure out who it was.
"You only have ten minutes left! You haven't even touched your exam sheet! Neither have you, Draco! Well, hurry along, now!" the professor exclaimed.
I gasped and quickly began to write my test. I had no clue that I hadn't even started yet. Stop thinking about Draco's problems. It's your grades over his life. The seconds of the hourglass plummeted down; it felt quicker than usual.
Worry overgrew the confusion that was inside of me. I scrambled to write answers across each line so every question was at least done. I was thankful that the paper wasn't perplexing. The only thing that surprised me was this horrid handwriting I had created just now.
"And time!" Slughorn called out, already collecting papers from students.
I let out a large sigh and leaned my back against the wooden seat. I slid down the chair and stretched my hands over the desk. I haven't had that much stress during any exam since the OWL's.
My energy came after I noticed Draco was packing his bag to leave for the next class. I quickly shoved my feather into a pocket in my bag and walked up to him. I cleared my throat and tried to act causal.
"Draco!"I let out and instinctively covered my mouth in shame.
He slightly turned his head and waited for me to continue.
"I'm sorry," I said, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to call you name."
Draco was gone.
