The summer before the Sixth Year.

Two ladies in black hooded raincoats walked up to the door, giving it a quick knock. They wanted to get out of the rain as quickly as possible. A strange man looked through the fogged-up glass of the door and let them in.

A man in a chair folded his newspaper down, annoyed. He looked to see who it was and waited for the two ladies to explain themselves. The strange man from the door peeked into the room. With the flick of his wand, the man in the chair shut the door on him, locking it.

A woman with hair that was dark and white hair coming from each side was seated in the chair. Tears filled her eyes, and her voice broke as she tried to speak.

"I-I know I won't be here," the lady started. "The Dark Lord himself forbade me to speak of this-"

"If the Dark Lord has forbidden you to speak of this-" the man started and shifted his eyes to the other lady. "Put it down, Bella. We mustn't touch what isn't ours."

Bella hesitantly set the object down.

"As it so, happens, I'm aware of your situation, Narcissa," the man continued.

"You?" Bella said in a reedy voice. "The Dark Lord told you?"

"Your sister doubts me, Narcissa," the man added. "Understandable. Over the years, I've played my part well. So well, I've deceived the greatest wizards of all time. Dumbledore is a great wizard. Only a fool would question it."

Narcissa never stopped looking at him, "I- I don't doubt you, Severus."

"You should feel honored, Cissy," Bella began. "As should Draco-"

"He's just a boy! Narcissa cried out.

"I can't change the Dark Lord's mind. But it might be possible for me to help Draco. To provide some... protection," Severus said, forming an idea.

Narcissa looked at him with a bit of hope, "Do you mean it, Severus?"

"I can try."

"Oh, Severus," Narcissa pleaded. "Please, if you would..."

"Swear to it," Bellatrix suggested with a devious look. Snape looked away from her. "Make the Unbreakable Vow. You see. It's just empty words. Oh, he'll try. He'll give it his best effort. But when it matters most he'll slither back into his hole. Bloody coward..."

Severus experienced a growing sense of anger as he realized the gravity of the decision at hand. With Bellatrix starting to drink from his Goblet, he swiftly took action.

"Take out your wand," Snape demanded.

Narcissa stood up and faced Severus. The two grasped onto each other's arms. Bellatrix held her wand over the two's arms and started.

"Will you," Bellatrix questioned. "Severus Snape, watch over Draco Malfoy as he attempts to fulfill the Dark Lord's wishes?"

"I will."

"And will you, to the best of your ability, protect him from harm?"

"I will."

From the wand of Bellatrix, light, and fire intertwined their link.

This was the question that gave made Snape jerk his arm the slightest.

"And should it prove necessary, if it seems Draco will fail... will you carry out the deed that the Dark Lord has ordered Draco to perform?"

Bellatrix waited for his response.

"I will."
