Defense Against the Dark Arts
I wasn't scared of any teachers, but Severus Snape did the job. Everything about him made students fear him. He wasn't a happy teacher. We could all agree on how he favored Slytherin over the other houses.
Draco was also in this class with him. He wasn't doing as horribly in this class. Tutoring wasn't needed. It was mostly just potions he had fallen behind on.
I find myself invested in his academics. It's not because I have any personal attachment to him but simply because I am pleased to see my tutoring efforts paying off. However, I remain curious about the sudden drop in grades. I have noticed that some of my fellow Slytherin girls are less than thrilled about his tutoring sessions with Gryffindors. The majority of my hate comes from Pansy Parkinson.
"Y/N!" someone yelled my name. This happens way too much. "5 points from Gryffindor for ignoring a teacher."
Great, it was Snape.
"But, sir!" I pleaded.
"I will take another five points if you do not answer this question right," Snape said. "What spell can be used to repel an acromantula?"
This question stumped me. What the hell is acromantula? Can it be about acrobats? Spiders? What the hell is a tula?
"Spiders," a voice whispered ever so softly. "It repels spiders."
"Five points from Slytherin and another five points from Gryffindor," Snape said and scolded Draco and me.
Is Draco helping a Gryffindor? I thought and gasped.
"Suprised by me taking points away?" Snape grumbled. "For assisting in the act of cheating, that will become a detention for you both. I will see you two after dinner. Dismissed."
"Detention!" I exclaimed, shocked. Snape quickly shut me up by giving me the death stare. I slid down into my seat and stayed in a slump position for the remaining time.
This means we can't do tutoring today. At least we'll be together. I mean... Our being together means he won't miss a session, of course. It's not like I want to be with him. Ugh, snobby Slytherins. He's not rude. That's a lie.
The day went on slower than usual. It felt like an eternity having to sit in classes and listen to someone drone on for hours.
Hermione wasn't too pleased about my detention during dinner.
"That was a stupid reason to give a detention," Hermione complained.
"Yeah, and know you've got to be with Draco for some time. That brat," Ron added.
"He's not a brat!" I shouted out and covered my mouth in humiliation. "I mean, I don't mind him."
Harry gave me a weird look before he continued to eat. I looked down at my plate for the rest of the meal. The second we were dismissed to return to the dorms, I immediately began walking to the Dungeons. It turned into a jog later on; the castle was humongous.
"Slow down!" a familiar voice called out as the words echoed through the hallway. "He won't say much if you're late."
I looked back, and the sight made my lip curl up ever so small, "Alright, then."
Draco caught up to me, and we continued to Snape's office. This walk was awkward. I didn't know if it was my fault. Maybe, I should say something to lift the mood. A joke, perhaps? I think I've got a good joke!
"What's a snake's favorite subject?" I asked as Draco opened the door for me.
"What on Earth are you talking about?" Draco questioned back, confused.
"It's a joke," I said, rolling my eyes and sitting in one of the chairs. "Just say what."
"Okay, what?" Draco said as told.
"History," I replied, elongating the "s" sound.
"I don't get it," Draco began; Snape interrupted by walking in. He slammed the door shut and took a seat at his desk.
"That's enough from you two," Snape said, and I sighed in relief. Why would I think he would get the joke? "Your punishment is to sort out these rotten Flobberworms and give me the good ones. You may not use gloves."
Draco groaned. I watched Snape as he walked over to the door again.
"I will be back in exactly one hour." the door was slammed again with a shut.
This was already disgusting. Not the sorting out part, the part where most of the worms were rotten, and we couldn't use gloves.
"My father will hear about this," Draco mumbled, standing up from the chair and peering into the jar of Flobberworms. "Bet he eats these."
I gagged. The thought of someone eating those putrid-looking creatures made me sick. Thankfully, they were only used in potions. Draco was seated in his chair again, and we were quiet for a while.
"We could do something fun, you know?" Draco finally said.
"Anything besides sorting worms," I begged.
"Well, I already know things about you, and you know stuff about me-" Draco started, but I wouldn't let him finish.
"Did you do that game with your mates? So, they could get to know you?" I blurted out.
"No, actually," Draco mumbled. "They don't like things like that."
"What about Parkinson and Astoria," I suggested. "They probably have asked you even worse things."
"I don't like either of them. Quite annoying," Draco replied. I was in shock at this. "Why are you asking me this?"
"It's just... I'm a Gryffindor and all. I didn't think you'd be so open. You don't seem like you usually talk about yourself and your feelings."
Draco's Point of View
"I don't like either of them. Quite annoying," I replied. "Why are you asking me this?"
"It's just... I'm a Gryffindor and all. I didn't think you'd be so open. You don't seem like you usually talk about yourself and your feelings."
I have to agree with her. Even though I've only been talking with this girl for a couple of days, it seems she understands me better than I do. Crabbe, Goyle, and Blaise were not keen on bonding that way. When we first met, we were in casual conversation. How could she figure out that I'm not comfortable discussing my emotions? I've been feeling quite troubled lately. Could it be that she has picked up on it? Or maybe others have too?
"Draco?" she asked. "I'm sorry if I said something wrong..."
