Potions Class
I played with the pages of my book nervously as Professor Slughorn began to pass out the exams from yesterday. My stomach was having a whole party, and the guest of the night was anxious.
"Great work, Miss Y/L/N," the professor congratulated.
The tenseness eased as I pushed my book aside and grabbed my paper. A hundred! A scream of happiness is something I wanted to do though the looks around the room weren't pleasant. My eyes quickly fell on Draco and his exam paper. My heart dropped.
Never had I seen a grade so low from him. It wasn't just a bad grade in this class. I don't think Draco has gotten that grade for any test.
It wasn't just this test that was like that for Draco.
It started to become a routine of receiving these low grades on tests. For all his subjects, it was like a game. What topic would he get the lowest marks on?
I'm starting to think that his bad day was turning into bad weeks. His appearance wasn't much help either. Oh, the teenage boy looked horrible. He had these dark circles that ran around his eyes. Draco's skin turned this light pale, and I guessed it was cold. He looked thinner than usual. He often ran his fingers through his hair like he had a headache. Maybe it was stress? From what is the question... I thought to myself during Potions.
"Y/N?" someone called my name. Funny. I feel I've heard my name being called for a while now. Oh, it was Slughorn; he did not seem pleased. "Y/N, for the last time, can you tell me the color of Veritaserum?"
"Oh! None, sir! It's clear!" I answered quickly, embarrassed for taking so long.
"Good to know you're paying attention," Slughorn replied with sarcasm and continued to flip through pages in the book.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Draco giving me a glance with a confused stare.
"You will have a partner project tomorrow," the professor announced, and I looked at Hermione with a large grin. It quickly went away once Slughorn continued. "I will be choosing them, of course."
"Great," I mumbled and packed my bag since the class ended soon.
"Oh!" Slughorn exclaimed, and I groaned since there was more to his unstoppable blabbering. "Miss Y/L/N and Draco, please stay behind for a moment."
What did I do? I thought and then remembered Draco was being spoken to as well. What does he want with him? With us? Once the class finished, Draco and I hesitantly walked over to Slughorn's desk. Slughorn held a stack of parchment in his hands as his eyes focused on me.
"Miss Y/L/N, this is some of the work for the next couple of weeks in this course," Slughorn handed the stack to me.
I held the papers in my hands and began scanning through the pages. I looked up at him with a bewildered expression.
"Thank you, sir, but what am I meant to do with this?" I asked.
"I'm not asking for much," Slughorn explained slowly, and his body faced Draco. "But I have been beginning to see an expected outcome in one's results."
Slughorn explained how Harry and I received top marks in the class recently. I just knew he was going to bring something up about Draco. Slughorn is concerned about Draco's lack of care in the class and how that will not assist him with passing. He wants to make sure that one of his former top students will still be able to pass the subject with no issue. Slughorn was surprised at Draco's behavior, and I couldn't say it out loud, but I was too. This was a new low for him. Draco used to be very cautious with his grades. I still can't think of what could've happened.
"Anyways," Slughorn ended his rant and began to wrap up the conversation. "I have given you the future lesson plans because I am asking you to do me a favor."
"Sir?" I asked. "What is it?"
"It might be much to ask, knowing you are studious," the professor said. "This will be beneficial to you both."
"What is it, sir?" I asked again.
I was Draco Malfoy's tutor.
