The first few weeks of living in the house and school were rough on Olive. She hadn't realized how attached to Jack she had truly become until she was so far from him. Going from every night by his side or having him only an hour away, to him being several states away and on the road wasn't easy. They still talked every day, tried to FaceTime when they could but with classes catching up and the regular season starting—it was hard. The texting was limited, good nights and good mornings beginning to mix into one.
Olive missed Jack.
To the point that she was laying in bed, staring at her phone after not receiving a text in hours. She was terrified. She knew that girls would throw themselves at him left and right. How was Olive to compare to anyone of them?
"Livvie?" Olive peaked from her blankets to see Mark at her door.
"Hm?"
"Everything okay? You've been burrowed in your bed all day." Mark stepped into the room, careful not to switch on the light that she purposely left off.
"Just don't feel good." She mumbled, sitting up slightly to let him lay beside her.
"Physically or.."
"Emotionally, I guess." Olive shrugged, "I miss Jack." She felt pathetic, after prizing herself as independent and never needing a boyfriend. Yet, here she was, missing her boyfriend like crazy.
"That's understandable.. is there anything I can do?" Mark let his hand brush through her hair as she shook her head, leaning onto his chest for comfort.
"No, I just want to stay here." Olive sighed, still holding her phone in her hand. "What if he finds someone—"
"Don't even try to say that." Mark stopped her before she could get the words out. "Don't ever try to say anything like that again, okay?"
Olive stayed quiet, clicking on her phone to see the few notifications she had gotten. Most from the groupchat, a few from Kassie, a snap from Trevor and one text from Luke. No Jack though.
"His brother can text me but he can't?" Olive muttered, mostly to herself.
"Don't overthink it, Liv." He pressed a soothing palm to her head, "next week you'll be seeing him in Detroit and it's gonna be fine."
"Don't say that. Please don't. When someone says something will be fine, it never, ever turns out that way." Olive didn't know how she had gotten to this headspace. To the point where not even Marks usually comforting had made her feel okay.
This wasn't good for her. She didn't want to feel like this over a guy who she had barely known five months. A guy she had been dating for two. Jack was no body to her a year ago, she didn't know he existed and now she was a mess without him.
"What are you doing?" Mark asked, startled as Olive got up from the bed in an instant.
She turned back to him, hands pressed to her hips, "out. We're going to that stupid frat party and-I'm getting drunk." Olive opened her dresser, digging for something, anything to wear.
"You've been calling Kas an idiot all week because she's going and now—"
"I'm going." Olive snapped, watching as his arms flung up in surrender. "Sorry, but I'm going. I just, i need to get my mind off my boyfriend who's being so fucking irritating and yeah."
"Okay, hurry up and get ready then."
—
"Pong champ!" Olive laughed wildly as she was scooped into the arms of her beer pong partner. They were two hours into the party and one two many beers past drunk. The girl hadn't thought about her boyfriend a majority of the night, too busy making frat guys sore losers.
"Couldn't be the champ without my partner." Olive retorted, clinging her arms around Marks shoulders. She smiled big at the blonde, feeling his hands hold onto her thighs as he held her up against him.
"I love seeing you smile, y'know that?" Mark asked her, his eyes dancing around her face, from one freckle to another.
"God, thats so—" Olive rolled her eyes, "don't say that shit, you weirdo." She dropped back to the ground, but kept one hand on his bicep.
"It's true, Livvie. When you're happy, so am I." Mark stated, brushing back a strand of her now red hair.
"I'm not drunk enough for this shit." Olive mumbled, refusing to listen to a word he said.
"Yeah, you're right. I've just.. I've had one too many." Mark sighed out, following her towards the house.
"You better not have because we're doing shots." Olive retorted, making a b-line to the kitchen where all the alcohol was.
"Olive!" The girl picked up her speed when she spotted the man who called her out. "Hey, rockstar! How are you?" Nolan asked, throwing his arm over her shoulder to bring her into a side hug.
"'M good, wanna take a shot with me?" Olive asked, leaning against him as Mark got up to them.
"Hell yeah."
