20 - tea dance - making the dress PT2

Rose's pov

I wake up early Monday morning getting myself ready for school, I head down to have breakfast where Howard is already sat eating his reading the paper 'I'm off to school Howie' I say 'have a good day Rose, don't forget your at the workshop afterschool.' He replies 'okay howie, am I there on Tuesday or Wednesday?' I ask 'no your not so you can invite Rebecca over afterschool and work on your dresses' he says smiling, 'have a good day Rose' he adds 'thanks you too, see you after school' I reply. I head out of the house and begin the walk to school, it was nice and sunny with a cool breeze.

'Hey Rose' a voice says beside me, I turn to see steve 'morning stevie' I reply smiling 'how was your weekend?' I ask 'it was good thanks, how was yours?' He replies 'it was fun.' I say smiling 'Rebbeca and I went to the haberdashers to get the fabric for our dresses and then we went to the cafe for lunch, Olive asked how you were' I reply smiling. 'I can't wait to see your dresses' Steve says smiling 'I can't wait for you both to see it' I reply. We continue chatting as we walk through the gates 'see you at lunch?' I ask 'see you at lunch Rose' Steve replies before heading to his class.

I sit down to see that Miss had written something on the blackboard 'tea dance'. I sit back and smile to myself, 'good morning class' miss says 'good morning Miss' we all reply 'the school is hosting a tea dance, the upper years were told last week' Miss says 'you can attend and boys you can invite a girl, and girls your home ec homework is to make a dress for a tea dance' she says. I just smile to myself as I already have a date to the dance and I'm making my dress. We continue with our lessons till it was time for lunch 'class dismissed see you all after lunch' miss says, as I'm getting ready to go I hear the girls talking 'I'm going to ask barnes' one says 'no your not I am' another says 'no I am' a third say, I just chuckle as they walk out arguing about who's as James.

'What got you chuckling Rose?' Miss asks 'just the girls arguing over James' I say 'James?' She asks 'Mr Barnes' I reply 'ah, may I ask why?' She asks 'James asked me last Wednesday' I reply 'and then Steve asked Rebecca' I reply 'Rebecca and I are already working on our dresses, we went to the haberdashers on Saturday and we are starting to make them this week' I add 'I look forward to seeing your dress' Miss says 'thank you miss, I'm sure James is too, he's not allowed to see the dress till the night' I reply smiling. 'I'll let you go for lunch' miss says 'thanks miss, see you after lunch' I reply before leaving the classroom.

I walk outside to see the girls from my class surrounding James, I walk over to join James and Steve 'hey Babe' I say kissing his cheek climbing onto his lap, 'hey doll, I missed you' he says kissing me 'I miss you too Jamie' I reply kissing him back. 'Can we help you?' I ask the girls who just stare back, 'if you wanted Barnes to go with you to the tea dance, you can't, he already has asked someone ' I say smiling 'oh so has Steve' I add still smiling 'so bye bye' I say waving them off. 'Doll, cheeky' he says smiling 'I love you Jamie' I say 'love you to Rosie' he replies 'stevie?' I ask 'yes bud' he replies, I touch my heart pointing at him and he does the same back.

'Your a bit later today' James says 'yeah Miss wanted to talk to me' I reply. 'Miss told our class about the tea dance and how the girls have to make a dress' I add 'miss asked me why I was chuckling and I told her that the girls wanted to ask you but you asked me last week, I also told her that Becs and I are already making our dresses' I reply. 'I can't wait to see you in your dress' James whispers in my ear 'I can't wait to see what you think' I reply. I spend the rest of lunch on James lap, 'What are you doing after school?' James asks 'I'm in the workshop today and then tomorrow and Wednesday Becs can come over after school to work on her dress and then on can drop her back home' I reply. We spend the rest of lunch chatting till the bell rang and we headed inside for class.

After school I walked out of class and stood by a tree which looks towards the door, I see Rebbeca walking out 'Rebbeca' I call over to her waving, 'hey rose' she says walking over to me 'if you would like you can come over tomorrow and Wednesday afterschool to work on your dress' I offer 'I'd like that Rose' she replies smiling 'I'll drop you home afterwards' I reply.
