13 - meeting Mrs Barnes Pt 1

Rose's pov

I felt better after telling Steve and James about how I felt about them both. It was reassuring that they both felt the same way. I was worried that I'd loose them both and I would be alone again.

We meet up at lunch like normal. Sometime I'm there before James and Steve, sometimes they are there before me.

It was Thursday, I had just left the classroom to head to lunch when I felt an arm go round my shoulder. 'Hey doll'  the voice says 'hey jamie' I reply smiling at him, he gives me a smile which makes my heart flutter. 'Did you have a good morning?' He asked 'it was okay. Miss asked us to show our drawings for our aprons which we start tomorrow.' I tell him 'I've got mine already cut out ready. I've been working on the dress too'  I tell him.  It was almost finished and I can't wait for him to see it.

Buckys pov.

It was Thursday lunchtime and I was heading out to meet Rose and Steve.  I saw Rose ahead of me so I put my arm around her shoulder, 'hey doll' I say. 'Hey Jamie' she replies smiling, I love it when she calls me Jamie. Apart from Ma and Rebecca she is the only other person I allow to call me James or Jamie. Even Steve doesn't call me James, but I can tell when somethings wrong as she calls me Buck.

I had a question for Rose today, ma asked me to invite Rose over for Tea on Saturday.  She is looking forward to meeting her after hearing all about her from Rebecca.

'Hey Rose' I say as we sit down at the table waiting for Steve, 'Ma was wondering if you wanted to come for tea on Saturday?' I ask her, 'really?' She ask, 'of course Doll, she would love to meet you. Rebecca talks to her about you.' I say smiling. I look at her as she smiles 'I would love that Jamie'  she says smiling. 'I love you rose' I say 'I love you too Jamie' she replies, I pull her close kissing the top of her head.

'You both okay?' We hear a voice say. 'We are thanks Steve' rose says. 'Hey Jamie' a voice says I see the group of girls walking from a few months ago walking towards us 'that's not my name' I tell them 'but your sister calls you that'  the lead one says 'that's because she's my sister. She's allowed to, for everyone else it's Bucky' I tell them.

I still have my arm around Rose, I can feel her looking down. 'Please can you leave us be' I say 'why do you hang around with them, you can do so much better' one of them asks 'they are my friends' I tell them. They all scoff before walking away, why don't they learn, I'm not interested.

'Hey Doll. They have gone now' I say pulling her closer kissing the top of her head.

It was soon time to head back in for our classes, at the end of the day I head home. 'MA' I call out 'in the kitchen James' ma replies. I head into the kitchen 'ma she said yes' I say smiling 'you look happy' ma says, 'I am Ma, I really like her'  I reply. 'Could I make a cake for tea?'  I ask ma 'of course James' she replies, 'chocolate?' I ask 'I know she love chocolate cake, Howard told me' I say. 'Howard?' Ma asks 'yeah Howard Stark, he's roses brother. He's really nice.' I say 'Protective, but nice' I say. 'Just like you and Rebecca' ma says 'yes' I reply smiling.

I head upstairs to my room to begin on some of my homework before tea. 'You look happy' Rebecca says 'I am becca, Rose is coming round for tea on Saturday' I tell her 'and I'm making her  chocolate cake, she loves chocolate cake. Howard's told me' I tell her 'I can't wait to see her again, I like her' Rebecca says, 'she likes you too'

Rose's pov

James and I were sat on our usual table waiting for Steve. James had his arm wrapped around my waist. He said his Ma has invited me over for Tea on Saturday. 'Ma was wondering if you wanted to come for tea on Saturday?' James asks me 'really?' I ask, 'of course Doll, she would love to meet you. Rebecca talks to her about you.' James say smiling. I look at her as she smiles 'I would love that Jamie'  I say smiling. 'I love you rose' James says  'I love you too Jamie' I reply, James pulls me close kissing the top of my head.  Even though these embraces are new I enjoy them, as James makes me feel safe.

'You both okay?' We hear a voice say. We look up to see Steve 'We are thanks Steve' I say. 'Hey Jamie' a voice says I see the group of girls walking from a few months ago walking towards us. I'm not a fan of them but I know that they don't like me and Steve being with James 'that's not my name' James tell them 'but your sister calls you that'  the lead one says 'that's because she's my sister. She's allowed to, for everyone else it's Bucky' he tells them

James still has his arm around me, I turn my head to lean on his shoulder, I block out what they are saying focusing on James heart beat. 'Hey Doll. They have gone now' james say pulling me closer kissing the top of my head.

Buckys pov.

Tomorrow Rose is coming round, ma said I could bake the cake tonight so that it could cool overnight ready for decorate in the morning.

I walked into the kitchen to meet Ma who was getting the cake tins out with the mixing bowl and scales, she had already got the cookbook out on the table. I walk over to the sink to wash my hands before putting on an apron. I help ma get out the ingredients

We pre heat the cooker so it would be ready to put the cake in. I follow the instructions weighing out the ingredients adding it to the bowl. 

The cake mixture was looking good, 'something smells good' Rebecca says walking into the kitchen, she goes to dip her finger in. I lightly swat her hand away 'don't even think about it Becca' I say 'jammmeeesss' she whines 'he right Rebecca, let him put it in the tin first' ma says smiling. We fill the tins before we put them in the cooker to cook.

'Come sit becs' I say, I grab two teaspoons and sit down beside her 'here' I say handing her one. We begin to scrape the inside of the bowl to get the last bit of cake mixture 'mmmm' Rebecca says 'you know how to spoil Rose' she says smiling 'I just hope she likes it' I reply smiling 'she will. Knowing you made it, is even better' Rebecca smiles.

'Right you to go upstairs and clean your faces' ma says, 'yes ma' we both reply before running upstairs. We both head to the bathroom to clean our faces.  I could smell the cake from up here, 'smells good Jamie' Rebecca says 'thanks Becca, I agree' I reply smiling.

Today rose is coming over to me ma. When I told ma about rose she instantly said to invite her for tea. Rebecca had told ma about Rose too, how lovely she was.
