While Elias knew he couldn't fight the wizard Naugus with pure strength alone, it didn't mean he couldn't take the beating. Any physical attack to him was hard and quite powerful, but it wouldn't keep the young king down. He had the will of his father and the heart of his mother. Every time he hit the ground, he got back up. Again and again.

Naugus blocked a sword attack with the top of his scepter, then striking Elias in the temple with the bottom tip. Taking the blow without falling, Elias retaliated with spin and bringing his blade upward to Naugus's chin. Surprised, Naugus didn't have much time to react and just barely blocked the top of his sword with the same damaged piece of his scepter that held the jewel. Little by little Elias was beginning to notice it breaking away, damaging the staff and possibly the gem as well. Whatever he was doing was working, but he had to continue cloaking his strategy.

While Naugus was still in the same stance from the block, Elias had used the wizard's knee to jump up and deliver a harsh kick to his jaw. The monstrous hybrid stumbled backwards from the blow, before again being hit back by Elias.

Now angry from actually needing to put in effort for a fight against the Mobian, Naugus swung his body toward, slamming his fists down in the process. He missed the young king, though not by much. Elias how leapt out of harms way just in time, countering with another swing of his blade. He too missed his shot, and was thrown against a large stone piece from the crumpled wall.

"You will not defeat me, boy." Naugus spoke, stomping over to him with fury. He attempted to stomp down on him, but Elias rolled out of the way just in time. While scrambling back to his feet, Naugus again fired off cosmic blasts from the jewel of his scepter. Elias dashed around, jumping out of the way of the blast.
"I'm stronger... I'm better!" The wizard gloated, barely missing any of his shots.

Elias rolled dove and rolled along the torn field and avoided another blast. He spun around the side of the same broken wall piece to stay out of harms way, even if only for a moment.
"You forgot uglier." He spoke without quite thinking first. "Gah, I sound like Sonic." He thought. He heard Naugus continue to fire off more rounds from his scepter, and peeked just an inch above the broken stone. There he got a quick look at the scepter, seeing just how damaged the pronged piece looked. It wouldn't take much more of a beating, so he had to act on it as much as he could, as fast as he could.

Another blast struck the stone right in front of his face, causing him to flinch and duck down to avoid the blow. As he ducked out of the way, Naugus had finally had enough of his hiding, jumping up and crashing down on the now shattered stone. The impact threw Elias a few feet from the wizard, giving him an extra second to regather himself and slide back to his feet.

Naugus swung his scepter at him but Elias ducked it and swung his sword back at him, again engaging in a duel of their weapons. While Naugus wasn't a soldier, Elias was somewhat surprised at how well he defended himself against his blade. He truly was a force to be reckoned with, but the young king refused to stop.

He battled back with all his might, putting more and more pressure on Naugus than he knew. The wizard's anger was beginning to blind him in his combat, only wanting Elias finally out of his hair. He'd finally got what he wanted by humiliating him, now he just wanted him dead.

At one of Elias's swings, Naugus finally broke their entanglement by avoiding the slash and grabbing the young king's forearm with his sword in hand. He tried to wiggle out and swing at the beast, but the iron grip of his claw was just too strong.
"I'm growing tired of this, boy!" He spoke in frustration to Elias, holding him up in the air by his arm. "We've had our fun, but now I believe it's time to put this miserable spat of ours at an end!"
