Sarada rushed down the hallway towards Boruto's room so fast that the air around her made noise. As to why she ran so quickly and felt rather angry at that, she herself wasn't sure.
Upon approaching the door of his room, several cheery voices emanated from the other side. And if she wasn't mishearing things, Boruto's voice was, in fact, amongst them.
He is there after all!
Without a moment's hesitation, she opened the door and invited herself in. "Boruto! You were supposed to take roll call!"
Now that she was fully inside, she noticed the source of their enjoyment. All of them were playing cards. If she remembered correctly, the game was called Shinobi Bout.
Playing with Boruto were Shikadai and Inojin, Iwabe and Denki, and lastly Mitsuki and Kagura. But now, instead of playing, they were staring at Sarada in surprise. It seemed like all of them were too wrapped up in their game to remember.
"Do you not understand the position you've been given?" Her voice came out a good bit colder than she intended for it to. All of the boys' faces showcased a small amount of terror.
"I guess we'll leave it at that for today," said Shikadai.
Boruto began gathering everyone's cards into a pile with a saddened look. "I understand, ya know..."
Everyone else joined in cleaning up the game. Kagura had a wry smile on his face, but it seemed like he was still happy.
And at that, Sarada sensed that everyone was rather uncomfortable with her sudden intrusion. She didn't see why. She was a little too forceful with her delivery, but what she said wasn't wrong.
Aren't they getting along a little too well now?
Even though Boruto usually made fast friends with everyone he met, Sarada couldn't help but feel as though he grew closer to Kagura at an unnatural pace. And it wasn't just Boruto; Kagura was growing usually close to all the boys in the class.
"You can have this," said Boruto, handing Kagura the stack of cards.
"Huh? Really?"
"Boruto!" Sarada yelled his name angrily without thinking.
"I'm going! I'm going..."
A few moments later, he ran up to where she was.
"Hurry up and get over here."
"Yeah yeah. My bad."
Whether he was reflecting on his actions or not, Sarada couldn't tell. She just stalked down the hallway in front of him with a slight sense of urgency.
"Jeez. Aren't you aware that you're the school field trip representative?"
"I just forgot about roll call. No need to get all fussy..."
Sarada stopped and turned around to face him. "And since when were you all buddy-buddy with Kagura-san?"
"Huh?"
"Even though you make friends with everyone really quickly, don't you think that was too fast?"
"Whaddya mean? It wasn't any faster than normal."
"Stop trying to dodge the question," said Sarada, staring directly into Boruto's eyes.
Without averting his gaze, he replied back. "You just worry too much."
"....."
She knew that Boruto wasn't lying, but Sarada couldn't help but feel like he was hiding something from her. Hiding something about Kagura. Perhaps it was something that everyone else in the room knew as well.
And for that reason, she started to feel a bit frustrated. She knew she couldn't pry about it and didn't have any intention of doing so, but it was exactly like the time Sumire was absent from school for a while. Boruto and a few others experienced something and kept their mouths completely sealed on the matter.
Of course, she hadn't confirmed that Boruto's strange behavior had to do with Sumire's absence. But due to the fact that it happened around the same time, it was natural for her to be a bit skeptical.
Sarada wasn't going to ask Sumire about it. If Sumire felt like telling her, Sarada would listen with an open heart and open mind. She thought that was what it meant to be a friend.
Then what about Boruto? And Kagura?
"....."
Sarada decided her answer. To her, there was no discrimination between friends. She was curious, but if it was something Boruto didn't want to tell her, she wouldn't pry any more than she already had.
"Ok... If you don't hurry, you're going to get scolded by the teachers tomorrow," she said, turning her back on him and walking forward. If they didn't do things properly, there was no doubt in her mind that Shino and Anko would send thunder crackling down on their heads.
"Yeah, I know."
And so, the two went to go take nightly roll call.
Later, Sarada would come to regret her decision not to ask. Because just like she assumed, Boruto and a few others had already gotten themselves into trouble...
